The Yankees were down 4 1 going into the bottom of the ninth. Senator starter Buster Narum gave up a single to lead off man Clete Boyer and walked pinchhit- ter Hector Lopez.

Ronnie Kline replaced Narum. Bobbv Richardson's fourth single of the day loaded the bases, and Tony Kubek followed with his fourth single, driving home Boyer to make the score 4 2 and leaving the bases still loaded Mickey Mantle hit a windblown ground rule double to tie the score at 4 4. Elston Howard drew an intentional walk and Pepitone, who had gone hitless in his last IB at bats, singled sharply down the right field line for the winning run. Nineteen year old Gil Blanco was credited with his first major league victory. He went the last two innings, allowing one hit and striking out two.

Kline suffered the setback, his Second in six decisions.
