Thursday Morning, July 25, 1974-LUBBOCK Yeoman Predicts Good Season For UH By BILL YEOMAN Ifpad Coach Houston HOUSTON (UPI)-Predictions are fun but hazardous. Fun because no one can take issue SPORTSMAN'S DIGEST SCENT LURES FOR FISHING with what you say. Hazardous because nothing that you sayj has been proven. Based on what we have coming back, based on their sfxring enthusiasm and effort, I would have to say that we have an opportunity to have a good football team in 1974. If there can be such a thing as optimism, the one item that gives rise to this is our defense.

It may well be one of the finest LIVER OIL IS ONE OF THE NATURAL FISH OILS USED AS A BASE IN MAKINGl SCENT LURES FOR FISHING. TO IT IS ADDED AN AROMATIC StENT SUCH AS OIL OF ANISE, OIL OF CELERY, OIL OF CUMIN, OIL OF FENNEL, AND OIL OF PATCHOULI. VANILLA AND TINCTURE OF ASAFETIDA MAV ALSO BE ADDED TO MIXTURES. Colts Open Two-A-Day Workouts BALTIMORE fAP) The strength of the National Football League strike may be determined in the Baltimore Colts camp today, the first day of scheduled two-a-day workouts for veterans. Linebacker Mike Curtis, the only NFL name player to cross picket lines in the 1970 strike, is certain to report. He already has undergone his physical examination. Running back Joe Orduna, obtained in a trade with the New York Giants, and second- year defensive lineman Joe Ehrmann have indicated they would come to camp.

At least three other players who were on the squad last season also are expected, but General Manager Joe Thomas and Coach Howard Schnellenberger preferred not to speculate. just have to wait and Thomas said Wednesday. players who have indicated they'll be in might not show up, and others who have not said they would, could be here. no way of While Schnellenberger drills his squad of draft choices and free agents, the striking players are conducting their own workouts every morning. They picket only briefly in the afternoon, as a bus carries players past the gate at McDonogh School.

Schnellenberger was an assistant under Don Shula with the Miami Dolphins in 1970 during the previous strike.

He recalled that the veterans finally reported on the Tuesday prior to the first scheduled preseason game. Texas Tech Inks Discus Thrower Mark Taylor, a discus man from Houston Westchester, has signed a track letter of intent with Texas Tech. Taylor, who stands 6-3 and weighs 230, has a best toss of 175-0 and is also expected to throw the javelin at Tech. We have the fine speed and size in our front four. We have Mack Mitchell defensive end, at 6-8, 250, who ran a 9.9 in high school and runs a 4.6 40-yard dash now. We have two great young sophomore tackles in Wilson Whitley and Lee Canal ito. Whitley is 6-4 and weighs 282 with great quickness and strength. Canalito is equally as quick and a little stronger at the point of attack.

A youngster who may well get overlooked, but who has been a great football player for us is Larry Keller at the other end. Our linebackers are all veterans. Bubba Broussard at 6-3, 235, will be starting for his third season. Harold Evans, 6-5, 220, is also starting his third year in a row. Gerald Hill, a youngster who was a tackle for us last year, moved to middle linebacker in the spring and did an excellent job.

He will also be starting for this third straight season. Moving into the secondary there are players like Robert Giblin, who is as good a football player as we have. With this experienced personnel you naturally feel a little optimistic. They deserve to have nice things said about them and now must recognize the accompanying responsibility to perform. Offensively it that our running game will be in good shape with Marshall Johnson, Donnie McGravv, Reggie Cherry and Clarence SheLmon all returning.

New Quarterback We have, hopefully, good wide receivers in Bryan Willingham, Frank Scalise and Larry Jefferson, who gives every indication of coming off knee surgery with out any problems. We have a new quarterback David Hasmann. He exhibited great leadership capabilities and (had a completely adequate spring.
