During time trials, Schroeder turned in the fourth fastest time using the same engine that Mark Martin used in the Jack Roush owned Valvoline Thunderbird in the Busch Clash. Schroeder drives a Ford Mustang owned by Roush in the Exxon Supreme GTS series. Where would the sport be without friends and sponsors? Speaking of sponsors, 1 doubt if the Budweiser people would be too happy to see the cardboard likeness of NASCAR Winston Cup driver Bill Elliott that is currently in the Sunbury Motors show room. The cardboard Elliott is wearing a Coors driver's uniform.

LANDRY, from Page 13 Friday at the Comfort Inn. Berwick's Jimmy Spencer would probably like to forget 1992 Speed Weeks at Florida's Daytona International Speedway. Spencer was not allowed to compete in the first day of qualifications for the Daytona 5(X) by STP. NASCAR inspectors found the rear spoilers on the Travis Carter owned and prepared Chevrolet mounted on an illegal deck (trunk) lid. The deck lid was fixed so that when the car was at speed on the track the wind would push the deck lid down creating less spoiler space which in turn would increase the speed.

After the Carter crew made the car NASCAR legal, Spencer qualified eighth fastest on day two of time trials with a speed of 184.847 mph. This earned Spencer, the 25th starting spot in the second 125-mile qualifying race on Thursday. Lady Luck wasn't smiling on Spencer any brighter that day as he finished 21st in the qualifier. Neither that finishing position or his qualifying speed were enough to put him in the starting lineup for the 5(X). Spencer earned $2,500 in the 125-mile qualifier.

Putting the $2,500 in perspective, a team spends somewhere around just for the tires used for the two laps of qualifying. A conservative estimate is that a team will spend $35 to $50,000 attempting to qualify for the 500. That number can quickly sky rocket as in the case of the Junie Donlavey team. The Donlavey owned Ford Thunderbird that Dorsey Schroeder qualified for the 500 had two engines, $25 ,000 each, JUNIOR HIGH Eighth grade Shikellamy 33. Wamor Run 30 High scorers: Shikellamy.
