He reported to the 10th Military District in Agusan and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the United States Army on May 11. Almost immediatel, he and two other officers gathered 1.500 men and organized the 114th Regiment. The purpose of the regiment was to operate radio stations to report Japanese shiping and troop movements to the United States Navy. As a second lieutenant, he was appointed commander of one of the battalions of the 114th Regiment. At one time, 15.000 Japanese troops, intended as reinforcements in the Solomons, were stranded for lack of the ships which the 114th had helped to sink.

In the single month of April. 1945. the 114th, under the command of Spielman, paved the way for the invasion of Leyte by helping the Navy destroy a troublesome radar station and by radioing information which led to the destruction of 3,000 Japanese troops. On November 14, 1946, having reached his present grade, he was placed on inactive duty and returned to the United States. He returned to active duty in December.

April (JPh -Police Thursday booked Mrs. Norma Wire, 24. arrested Tuesday night in a raid which Captain Thomas Harrison said nipped the nerve center of a vice ring. She was charged with directing persons to houses of prostitution and was ordered to appear Friday before Municipal Judge Mason S. Sullivan.

Mrs. Wire was found by police sitting at a table before two telephones in a bare room at 640 North Clark Street. Also on the table were two leather-bound notebooks containing the names, birthdates and other information on 2.500 men. Captain Harrison said the men were clients who telephoned the ring for appointments with prostitutes. The names included those of a film star, an Illinois state senator and many residents of foreign countries who have visited Chicago in recent months.

Captain Harrison said his men are seeking for questioning a second woman who he said had worked in the room as a telephone operator. Nash Motors Announces $20 to $120 Reduction On New Nash Airflytes P. K. WILLIAMS Announces Reductions On Entire Used Car Stock 1948 NASH 4-door sedan. radio.
