TUESDAY, JUNE 17,1975 THE DAILY COUHfit COMNHlSViilE, PA. PAGE ELEVEN Brings WfHTcnt, Horse Impounded COLPEPPER, Ya. (UPI) -The bone ride recreating an historic trip from Charlotte, N.C. to Philadelphia was sidetracked over the weekend, with the rider being issued a warrant for his arrest and the horse impounded with severe saddle sores. Jerry Linker, 22, recreating the ride of Cant James Jack, a North Carolina tavern owner who took the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence to Philadelphia 200 years ago, was issued the warrant here Saturday for overriding the horse.

A Humane Society member, Doris Ireland, signed the complaint after seeing the exhausted and bone-thin Arabian stallion Linker was riding. Mrs. Ireland said she was called shortly after midnight Saturday by a stable owner caring for the horse. She said the horse was suffering from eihazzsSo? asd severe saddle sores, and that she knew it could not continue the 600-mile ride over concrete highways. "It was completely exhausted," she said Sunday.

"All its ribs were showing, and it was lying down and just couldn't get up. "I issued a warrant, but stipulated 'that if he (Linker) agreed to have the horse vanned back to North Carolina I will dismiss the charges," she said. 'After impounding the stallion, the Culpepper County "sheriffs department turned it over to retired Col. W.M. Kasper, a stable owner in Culpepper.

linker, who is attempting to make the trip in about the same amount of time as Capt. Jack, will have to hurry back to Culpepper for a July 10 hearing. He took off Sunday morning on a new horse provided by Roland Hill of Orange County, and was unavailable for comment. The stallion's owner, Charlotte architect Lloyd Moon, was en route Sunday to pick up the horse. The Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence was allegedly signed May 20,1775, more than a year before the signing of the U.S.

Declaration of Independence. Jack reportedly took a copy of the Declaration, to North Carolina's congressional delegates to Philadelphia. 6 Fewer Dailies This Year New York As of Jan. 1, 1975) there were 1,768 dafly newspapers in the-United States, a decline of six in a year.
