Page 12 Travel April 29, 1934 S.F. Sunday Examiner Chronicle mm A cruise-ship that's built for sheer luxury sister ship In the making, the Sea Goddess II, scheduled to enter service next spring. Each of the ships, built in Finland, cost $34 million, which averages out to $300,000 a berth. The Sea Goddess operation is the brainchild of SB-year old Helge Naarstad, until 1930 president of Norwegian Caribbean Lines. There are 830 shareholders in the venturg, all Norwegian, as is the ship's crew and flag.

The Sea Goddess is currently making a series of one-week voyages along the Mediterranean coast between Malaga on Spain's Costa del Sol and Athens, with trips ending and starting at Monte Carlo and Rome. Thanks to her size, the Sea Goddess is able to call at many small ports rarely visited by cruise ships, such as St. Tropez, Ibiza, Portoftng, Capri, Corfu, Sorrento and St Raphael. In October the ship will cross the Atlantic to base at Christiansted, St Croix, for five months of one-week Caribbean cruises, again calling at many smaller islands. The first voyage left Malaga only about 60 percent full but the owners are gratified at early bookings.

And pleased she has been chartered for two early summer trips, one bya southern Calif ornian who intends to take friends to sea. If you, too, would like to treat your friends to a week ol luxury, be advised the price tag is $400,000. l) -s i t'i -T-" 1 By Bruce Hamby Examiner correspondent ALAGA, Spain If you're in the same boat as so many of us and plan your travels around I i 1 1 excursion air fares or cruises that I I 1 1 of fer tree fli.shts t0 the ship' the foIlcmlng may be of only vicarious interest. Occ. $343 $332 IXTAPA It's about a new cruise ship which proudly bills herself as the "world's most expensive and exclusive." She's the Sea Goddess a trim, yacht like vessel currently making her bow on a series of seven-day voyages along the Mediterranean coast. One needs dollars, lots of them, to enjoy her. Price of a one-week cruise is $3,300 per person, which means a couple adding on air fare from home to Europe can easily run up a tab nearlng five figures. Is it worth it? After a short preview voyage, I'd rate the ship, her decor and service as superior overall to any I've experienced over the years.

If luxury is your bag and you have the means, you wonl find anything quite like the Sea Goddess. The ship accommodates 120 passengers In 60 outside cabins, all identical except for a pair of singles. Living quarters are spacious, comfortable and handsomely decorated. There Is more storage space closets, cabinets and shelves than on most ships. And each cabin (they're term-: ed suites) comes equipped with remote control television, 1 radio, stereo, video recorder, refrigerator and bar.

Passengers are asked before embarking to list their favorite beverages, hard or soft, and the bar is stocked at no charge. Assorted snacks are provided, as are magazines of the passenger's choice. Another major distinction is enjoyed In the dining salon. There are no steam table offerings but each dish is prepared to individual order. There is no assigned time for dining and no assigned tables, with passengers free to choose tablemates as they wish.

Wine with meals (excepting a few premium items) are complimentary with the ship's wine cellar well stocked with top-line French and California products. One evening I enjoyed as the "house" wine a French Pouilly Fulsse. Still another major plus is the ship's library, better stocked than any I've seen, shelves lined with books from latest pocketbooks to the classics. There's an extensive collection of movie video cassettes for viewing in the cabins. Despite her small size (the Sea Goddess weighs in at 4,000 tons and ts 340 feet long), the ship has more than ample i- HttMlidMy1-Sil 30 "vo1 CITY Heretic ffclley flcundtrip air Via 'WORIO 'AIRWAYS with hct Cr.
