Ann Bothern's getting all her best Christmas presents in advance. mean, the nicest things are breaking for Ann and they aren't tied up In green and red ribbons She's made up with Bob Sterling for one thing, and for another she gets her best role in a long time opposite Alexander Knox in "Indian Summer" at RKO. Of course, "Malsie" Sothern is on loan out from "Indian Summer" has a story that intrigues me. It's about a small town judge who gets a chance to take a little fling from his prosaic life (perfectly moral, of course, you Johnston office boys). The pretty waitress who brinars the "Summer" into his life is Annie, and somehow this sounds a little like Hollywood's answer to "Brief Encounter," the charming English picture.

Boris Ingster wrote and will direct the movie when it rolls after the first of the year. BURT LANCASTER again has a date with Mark Hellinger, and that ought to make him pretty happy, for 'The Killers" put him on the map. This time and the picture starts in February hell be starred in "Brute Force," the story of a man born on the wrong side of the tracks, who lives on uronsr side of the law and dies trying to get the right kind of woman. To play this desirabls woman, mark is trying to get Ava Gardner, and that shouldn't be difficult because he started her out on a new career in "The Killers." Mark believes in "to each his own," for he bought "Brute Force" from Robert Patterson, columnist on the San Francisco Examiner. Jules Dassin, who re cently obtained his release from is the director.

DARRYL ZANUCK faces an-other operation on his hand. The break which he sustained a week ago while he was playing polo is a very bad one and Dr. John C. Wilson said it needs another operation to be sure the break in two places heals perfectly. Because Darryl promised to take his children and Mrs.

Zanuck to Sun Valley for the holidays, he will wait until the first of the year to go into the hospital. He came all the way from Palm Springs Sunday, hand in cast, to do my broadcast, and he was very good. We have had much favorable comment. I TALKED WITH Victoria Mix, widow of the late cowboy star, today and she told me that her estranged husband, Major Earl Robinson, was nursing her back to health. She's had the flu and has been very sick, Robbie has been one of Beverly Hills' best known playboys and I didn't know that he and Victoria were married and divorced.

She says it is not a reconciliation but they are just very good friends. When Tom separated from Victoria he gave her a fortune. He was al-wavs cra2V about her and the lush days when she was the mlS' tress of the famous Mix palace, have never been equalled in our town. CHATTER IN HOLLYWOOD!
