Freeman in receiving the guests was Mrs. Walter Mashburn, hospital office managor. The was held in the chapel parties had been decorated with Christmas greens and a large tree. From 2 10 4 o'clock the afternoon the 200 hospital employes visited the rhapel and were served refreshments. Organ selections appropriate 10 the Yule season were played by Mrs.

Ferls Lee and Miss Marcele Casteel, and vocal numbers wore by the nurses chorus, and three of the hospital employes, Miss LIly Blumenherg, Miss Mildred Holler, Mrs. Faye Freesemeyer, and Carol Greene. Mrs. Seldon Russell gave a readIng. "The Littlest Angel," and Norman Taylor letter from his son, a member of the armed forces.

In addition 10 the hospital employes representatives of the hospital board of directors and White Cross Auxiliary were in attendance. Mrs. Mashburn was chairman of entertainment and Miss Lois McFarland, chairman of freshments. Party at Alton Memorial Nurses Home A party for student nurses of Alton Memorial Hospital was held Wednesday evening in the nurses home and during the evening announcement WAS made of the winners of the Christmas decorating contest, an annual event at the nurses home. Students in Mary hall were warded the prize in the outside decorating contest and the prize for interior decorations went to Martha hall.

Judges of the contest were Dr. and Mrs. Frank A. Morrison, Dr. and Mrs.

Robert B. Lynn, and Dr. and Mrs. Harry Mantz, who remained for the evening's festivities after Judging 1he decorations. Refreshments were served and there was a visit from Santa Claus, who presented gifts to the students.

Speechmistress Club Christmas Party Mrs. George C. Dintelmann entertained members of the Speechmistress Club with A Christmas party Wednesday evening, at her home, 716 Union street. Dinner was served at 6:30 o'clock. During a brief business session conducted, by the president, L.

Kitzmiller, a committee was appointed to revise the existing by-laws of the club. The committee is composed of Mrs. T. Allen Hermeling. Mrs.

R. H. Schindewolf and Mrs. Kitzmiller. The nominating committee has been appointed to prepare a new slate of officers for the approval of the club, at the first meeting in January.

Mrs. Ambrose Schreader, Mrs. James Ohley and Mrs. Otto F. Brazier are serving on that Plans were discussed for the program which the club will present before the Wood River Junior Woman's Club, Jan.

Kilmer of 518 Whitelaw avenue, Last Alton, are announcing the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Marie, to Jesse Lee Smothers, son of Mrs. Mary Smothers of Hillview, Ill. The couple plan 10 marry January 19, and the wedding Miss Bittie Balster Weds in Wond River Miss Billie Balster, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Balster, 123 West Tydeman avenue, Roxana, became the bride of Guy Hale, of Last Alton, son ol Mr.

and Mrs. Guy Hale, of Korbers Ridge, at 1 to o'clock Wednesday. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. E. E.

DeLong. pastor of the Roxana Presbyterian church at the parsonage in Wood River. 'The double ring ceremony was used. Miss Esther Warner of East Alton and Herman Winders of Wood River were the couple's aliendants. The bride wore A winter white hat and dress.

The dress was an afternoon frock trimmed in gold styled with a tight bodice and full skirt with cuft hipline pockets and tiny covered buttons sprinkled with gold down the front from the oft center sweetheart neckline. She wore A gold choker and navy blue accessories. She carried An arm bouquet of white roses, baby breath and stephanotlas tied with gold ribbon, Miss Warner wore 8 pastel blue frock of street length fashSoned with unpressed pleats in the skirt and tight bodice. She wore brown accessories and carried a colonial bouquet of white and pink carnations and chrysanthemums tied with old rose ribbon. A reception wAs held following ceremony at the home of the bride's parents and was attended by 50 persons from Louis, Staunton, Bethalto, Alton, Wood River and East Alton.

The table was decorated with a tiered cake overcast by and white streamers atsilver, 10 the chandelier, Christmas poinsettas, and greenery, Refreshments were served by the bride's aunts, Mrs. Minnie Balster, Mrs. Jack Schmuch, Mrs. Helen Covington of East Alton, Mrs. Victor Stanton of Alton.

and Mrs. Horace Meade of Wood River. The evening meal was served at the Stratford Hotel. The couple left on a wedding 1rip, not disclosing their destination. For traveling the bride wore A grey with blue accessories.

Upon their return they will reside in an apartment on Sixth street, Roxana, Mr. Hale is a 1949 graduate of the University of Illinois, College of Commerce and Accounting and is employed in the treasury department of Shell Oil Company, Mrs. Hale is a graduate of the Roxana High School and of the Kitzmiller Beauty College. Doanery Nurses' Party nt St. Joseph's Alton deanery, Diocesan Counell of Catholic Nurses, had a Christmas party Tuesday night in the nurses lounge of St.

Joseph's Hospital, and 8 program was presented by Jerry York, Donna Duley and Marilyn Duley. Cards were played, and refreshments were served. Prizes were awarded to Mrs. Harold Schreiber and Miss Bernardine Ochs, and the council members brought toys and fond for distribution amung needy familles. Business session was held in connection with the party, and Mrs.

David Schauer was elected president, Miss Wilma Plummer, vice-president, and Mrs. Schreiber, secretary-treasure. Officers for 1950 were Miss Mercellne Henson, president, Mrs. Schauer, vice-president, And Mrs. Fulton Johnston, Wood River, secretary-treasurer.

Pre-Nuptial Party Monday Evening Mrs. Eugene Bolo and Miss Ruth Ann Nolan entertained with a pre-wedding linen shower Monday evening at the home of Miss Nolan, honoring Miss Ila Raffaelle, who will be married Christmas day to John Alley Lowery. The wedding wHI take place at. 3:30 p. m.

at the First Methodist Church, East Alton, with the pastor, Rev. L. B. Walkington officiating. Upon arrival of the guests will take place at the First Baptist Church, East Alton.

Miss Kilmer graduated In 1944 from the East Alton- Wood River High School and is employed al the Army Finance Center, St. Louis. Mr. Smothers graduated from White Hall High School In 1943. He is employed at the Western Cartridge Company.

Dust.man were given club prizes, and gills were exchanged. The group has met over a period of years. at the Collins home, with members taking their turn in being hostesses but until yesterday the club was without a name. Meetings are held every two weeks. Mrs.

Rawlinson will be hostess in two weeks. Delta Theta Taus' Christmas Party Mrs. Allen McKee, Mrs. H. K.

McConathy and Mrs. N. Albert McConathy were hostesses to Delta Theta Tau sorority Tuesday night, entertaining at the home of Mrs. McKee on Riehl Jane. Christmas gifts were exchanged, and refreshments were enjoyed following the playing of canasta.

Miss Alberta Long, Mrs. Marcus Youngberg George Harvey were given prizes. Washington School Faculty Entertained Miss Philomene Marum, principal of Washington school, entertained faculty members at dinner Wednesday night at her home, 1201 McPherson street. The dinner table was orated with bells and birds in chartreuse. Chartreuse birds were presented to the seven guests as favors.

Following dinner gifts were exchanged, and a gift was presented to Miss Marum. Miss Margaret Clifford Weds in Chevy Chase The marriage of Lt. William Henry Lanagan, United States Marine Corps, and Miss Margaret Pepperell Clifford, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clark MeAdams Clifford, were married Wednesday at 4 o'clock in All Saints Episcopal Church, Chevy Chase, Md.

A reception was held at the recently acquired estate of the Cliffords, 8551 Rockville Pike, Bethesda, after the wedding. Guests included the bride's paternal grandmother, Mrs. Frank A. Clifford of St. Louis, and uncle, William D.

McAdams of New York. Chautauqua Suiling Club Dinner in St. Louis The Chautauqua Sailing Club will have its winter meeting Friday evening at 'Garavelli's in St. Louis, at 6:30 o'clock. Dean Jacoby, the club commodore, will preside at a busimeeting, and entertainment will follow.

Everts Married 50 Years Mr. and Mrs. Hugh O. Everts, well-known Jerseyville couple, will mark their golden wedding anniversary on Christmas day and in observance of the will receive at an "open house" celebration that afternoon, beginning at 3 o'clock, at their on South Washington street, Jerseyville. A. J. Everts of Jersey County. He was born in Jersey county in 1879 and was 71 in November. The couple have three sons: Leonard of Alton, Roscoe of East Alton, and Marlon of Jerseyville, Their daughter, Frederica, died in 1912.

Mrs. Everts has a brother, Clarence Sears of Alton and two sisters, Mrs. C. N. Scribner of Wood River and Mrs.

George Wright of Kansas City, Kan. Mr. Everts has a brother, Eugene Everts of Jerseyville, and two sisters, Mrs. Cora Ford of Eldon, and Mrs. Florence Warner of Medora.

Lindenwood BS Degree Approved By AAUW The American Association of Unlversity Women has notified Lindenwood College, St. Charles, that the Lindenwood degree of of bachelor of science in education, general business, home economics, and physical education has been reognized as qualifying.
