You are an employee of the General Aircraft Corporation Astoria Plant. You started on July 15, 1942 as a trainee in their sheet metal department, and you advanced to your present job of lead man on landing gears. You have been awarded first prize on two occasions and have received five honorable mentions from the General Aircraft Corporation's Production Advisory Committee for your suggestions and inventions. Another invention of yours is now being reviewed by the Committee, which may bring you another higher award.

This development of yours will cut a thousand fixtures in five days. Normally it would take ten men a full day to cut eight of these fixtures by hand. The General Aircraft Corporation of Astoria are manufacturers of the CG-4A troop and equipment carrying gliders, and any development to speed production is of great assistance in the winning of the war. You are an old Navy man, and served in the United States Navy during World War I on the mine sweeper U. S.

S. James. You had the misfortune of losing a leg while at sea. You were awarded the Croix de Guerre for service in World War I. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, you endeavored to enlist in the Navy again, waiving the physical examination, but you were turned down.

You attempted to enter the Maritime Service and were again rejected because of your physical handicap. That did not deter you from making a very important and outstanding contribution to our war effort. This war cannot be won on the firing line alone, and your outstanding contributions to our home front serves as a heartening inspiration to the men who man the firing lines. The Committee on Selections and Citations Chairman CHARLES B. Mc-CABE, Publisher of the New York Mirror; NATHANIEL L.

GOLDSTEIN, Attorney General of the State of New York; DAVID L. TILLY, President of the New York Dock Company and President of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, and WILLIAM MARTIN, Commander of the Duncan Phyfe Post of the American Legion. This Committee will select individuals in the New York area who, in their opinion, merit citation for sterling performance in line of duty here at home.
