Furthermore, four boys reported previous abuse and ere likely lo report abuse by Dufort.

"Why would he have done it if he knew they would tell?" Donahue suggested the boys' troubled backgrounds made them dishonest and manipulative. "When your world is upside down, wbere's reality?" And how could Dufort be at all the places and times described by the prosecution? Why would he attempt such things in so close proximity to social workers and other Farm Home staff, Donahue asked. Donahue stated that sex offender treatment increased under Dufort's directorship and Dufort wrote the Farm Home child abuse reporting policy. The jury of seven women and five men started deliberating at 1:30 am.

Charged with molesting six boys under 18 who were in care of the home for troubled youth from 1967 to 1989. Among Judge Robert Gardner's instructions to the jury was that the state did not have to prove the exact dates on which the alleged incidents occurred. Gardner bracketed the dates between Mav 1.
