WACO, TEXAS, FRIDAY, Fashionettes If frizzy hair drives you crazy on humid summer days, think about getting a shorter, layered haircut. Don't forget that combs, barrettes and scarves conceal or help control the frizzies. For a change, try painting your hair with one of the new paint-on hair bleaches that are literally painted on with a brush. SEPTEMBER 17, 1976 -PAGE 3C New Key to Power Women Catching On! By GEORGIE ANNE GEYER CHICAGO- read about so many setbacks for women these days. In Russia, they have announced that no more women will be sent into space.

American policewomen are dropping out of the force in large numbers. In the underdeveloped countries, women are losing both jobs and status as agricultural jobs become increasingly mechanized. But now we have a woman who has opened new vistas, who has shown us, in a way not quite shown before, that women are quite able, after all, to master anything men can master. I recall Alexander Orfila, the Argentine Secretary General of the Organization of American States, stating assuredly lastyear that women had a lot of power because they could "whisper in the ears of men at night." It takes a little imaginaton to assume The Geyer File that men would rely on such tender murmurs to start a revolution or lower the price of soybeans, but no matter This was the conventional wisdom woman's power lay where she lay. But now Cornelia Wallace has shown how a modern woman can join the technological age right along with the men.

In the wisdom of Cornelia, you no longer whisper in their ears, baby, you bug 'em. After it was discovered last week that Cornelia had been bugging her crippled husband's bedroom phone, the governor insisted vehemently that "It was a purely domestic matter. There were no politics involved at all. What happens between me and my wife remains the business of my wife and myself." But, Governor Wallace, you were wrong. It is not just your business.

Cornelia has become the technological heroine of the technological age: the first female Watergate. Ah, it brings back so many wonderful historic memories. Charlotte Corday stabbing Marat in the bathtub. (She was always tidy.) Alexander the Great's first wife poisoning his second. The Borgia women poisoning everybody in sight (Women were always poisoning in those days: it was almost a second lesson in cooking).

Women in the harems of Constantinople drowning the male sons of the other concubines so their own sons would come to power. Jackie Kennedy buying all those designer clothes. Of course, we still don't know exactly why Cornelia did such a thing. It seems unlikely that the governor, with his disabilities, would be playing around; but who knows? Very probably, we will never know why she bugged her beloved, but that's not the main point, anyway. The new, key element here is the bug, and we should be thankful for it.

All those crude ways of the past are past Women no longer need to poison, threaten, turn the children against the father, strangle. Now we are as modern as the men. We, too, can play tapes. Of course, there are those women who will complain that women should be different, that they should use power more responsibly than men. There are those who assumed that feminists would change all that, that women no longer would have to be devious to get ahead.

But Cornelia gives us a big "Pshaw" to all that. She shows us that women can do all the underhanded things men do- -and better. As for me, I have just one last message I'd like to get around town as quickly as possible: If any married men need to phone me, about a story, to confirm a dental appointment or to tell me when my car will be ready, do me a favor- -use a public phone booth.
