the pre tourney favorite. Smoot-Anderson was ranked second prior to the big meet, but the feeling here Is that the Wacoans will defeat Brazosport and move into W'ednesdav finals. Manager Dub King said after his second victory that he would start another left-hander, John Manning, against Brazosport Wednesday. Should the Wacoans win that one, they will be in the finals Wednesday night against either Houston Hospital Heights, Brownwood, Texas City or Pasadena. Boyce Roberts, Smoot-Anderson third baseman, swatted a three- run homer in the first inning to sew up the victory over Bellaire, Roberts also singled to pace his team at bat.

Shortstop George OLDING LANCES By EARL GOLDING Banda and Catcher Tom Carpenter got the other two Waco hits. It was Banda who won the opening game for Smoot-Anderson, producing a 3-2 triumph over Port Arthur with a long home run in the last inning. Kenneth Brunson, who hurled Monday, wil be ready for duty again Wednesday, and Stevens will also be eligible to pitch two innings under state Teen-Age regulations. Weathers, head football coach at Connally High School last season, has resigned to return to Ennis High School as assistant coach.

Weathers, a former football star at Waco High and Baylor, tendered his resignation at a meeting of the School Board Monday night and it was accepted, but the board yet decided on his successor. Clayton Oliver, the Connally assistant coach last season, may get the job. Before coming to Connally in September, 1952, Weathers served as assistant coach under Dave Ryan at Ennis and that combination will be reunited this fall. Knnis has won the District 19-AA title for the past two years and has another good team coming up. Connally will have the strongest team in its three- year history this season and will be favored to win the District 24-B championship and end two-year domination.
