(alee a trip to another EWorld OPENS JUNE 24 SPECIAL GROUP RATES Tuesday, June 5, 1973 The Ottawa Journal 15 Second big season opens for newest of attractions Lake George The spectacular family fun center known as "Time Town" is new open for its second season, according to its creator and owner, Albany businessman Ted Yund. The magnificent 40-acre park, some 1300. ft. high and commanding sweeping views of island-studded Lake George, combines a Space Age and Yesteryear theme in its beautifully wooded 16-c at ion on Coolidge Hill Road, off Rte. 9N, six miles north of Lake George Village.

In creating "Time Town," Yund worked with over 200 artisans to recreate two contrasting worlds the future and the past That they have succeeded admirably is attested to by the fact taht throngs have flocked to the the day of its opening. Dotting the landscape at "Time Town" are huge geodesic "dynadomes." They resemble grapefruit halves 70 feet in diameter. A large rotating observatory houses a telescope so powerful mat even Moon craters inside craters are visfcle. The scope, worth $20,000, is one of the largest in use in Eastern United States. Looming oyer a specially designed space age playground and family picnic area is a 17-foot statue of a Neanderthal caveman.

It is one of three such giants produced over the past decade and presents an unusual contrast to the playground with its Lunar Lem vehicle and other spacetype devices for children to romp on. A chance meeting in Denver three years ago between Yund and Designer-Artist Gene Mundell has resulted in one of the most popular features of Time Town a huge Flying Saucer trip into the Space Age future. "When you take this trip," Yund says, "you're ready to come back to Mother Earth." Visitors enter a "teleportation" room where they are prepared for their planetary trip. Then) it's on to the planet where eerie landscapes, lighting and weird audio effects accompany such sights as a fallen space ship still emitting its last flickering light. Strange space creatures, called "pre-historic" by Mundell, abound space amoeba, jester gassing trees, hypnotic rock monsters, space prairie dogs, hooded spider mice and many others.

Visitors leave through the Saucer's "Star Exit" which is a long, three-dimensional tunnel that Mundel claims is a spellbinder. Mundell will have two more blockbuster creations for this season 2 helmeted Astronauts flying in-space. The fibreglass Spacemen, each' 12 feet tall, were created by Mundell during the winter in his Lake George studio. Also new for the 1973 season is a spectacular new 9-Lane slide. Called the "Meteor Slide," it is an incredible 165 ft.

long with three "tummy-fluttering" moguls enroute. Normally 35 ft. high, the slide, down which 9 youngsters can zoom at one time, is set against a hillside to minimize the climb to only 20 ft At the same time, Yund will introduce a new 36 ft diameter helicopter ride, with up and down movement controlled by the young "pilots" as a safe, out of the way helicopter blade whirls above them. For some of the other attractions, entrepreneur Yund can thank the urging of his fourteen children. Over trails hewn through beautiful woods, a wilderness train ride carries over 40 persons through Adirondack timber, tunnels and across ravine bridges for over a half mile.

Specially crafted by the renowned Chance the train will please even the most avid railroad buff with its authenticity. Extremely popular with Time Town visitors are imported antique cars which can be driven over macadam and firm mulch highways and deliver 80 miles per gallon. Other ride attractions are a delightful Carousel and a huge 80' 40' concrete rink where Space Age "Bumper Cars" can be driven to collide and bounce against each other. Children and adults alike can learn much about the skies from astronomers in the Time Town Observatory. Its 22-inch Celestron telescope is one of the largest in the East During the day.

visitors can see close-ups of the sun through the special scientific sun filter. Another Dyna-Dome houses a fully modern theatre with a seating capacity of 150. Space age films and audio-visual shows are featured every half hour. And, occasionally, even a Charlie Chaplin movie is thrown in for fun. Sprinkled over the "Time Town" landscape are au thentic animated figures greeting visitors on the train ride, along the special hiking trails and the antique car highways.

Designer Mundell has also created a host of fantasy creatures along the woodland trails, most animated and specially lighted. In the exhibits Duna-Dome, Yund gives another nod to yesteryear with an installation of several ten foot long dioramas with models of the first steamboat, De Witt Clinti Railway, Indian Pony Drag and others, all originating from the 1933 Chicago World's Fair. "Time Town" is easily reached by taking Northway Exit 23 to Rte. 9N, then take Coolidge Hill Road off Rte. 9N.
