Yanks, Brewers brawl again MILWAUKEE (UPI) For the second time in three days. New York Yankees and Milwaukee Brewers engaged in a bench-clearing brawl, this time as a result of a tag play in the seventh inning of Sunday's game, the finale of a frustrating three-game scries for the defending world champions.

l.ou Piniella stroked a run-scoring double with one out and Graig Nettles followed with a grounder to shortstop Kobin Yount. Pinella broke for third oh the play and Yount threw to third baseman Jim Gantner. The two players collided and Piniella, who elected to try knocking the ball free instead of sliding, ran by the base after being tagged out. When Gantner charged after him. New York third-base coach Mike Ferraro intercepted the third baseman before he could reach.

Piniella. Piniella then joined Ferraro and Gantner rolling in the third base coaching box as both benches cleared. Red Sox pull third triple play ARLINGTON, Tex. (AP) Boston Ked Sox executed a record-tying third triple play of the season Saturday night in an American League baseball game against Texas Hangers. John Grubb led off the first inning for Texas with a single to right field and Buddy Bell followed with a single to centre that put runners on first and third.

Second baseman Jack Bro-hamer ran into shallow right field to make a diving catch of Al Oliver's looper, then got up and threw to Bob Watson in time to double off Bell at first. Watson then relayed to Butch llobson at third before Grubb could get back to the bag. Previously, three other teams in major league baseball history had recorded three triple plays in a season the 1911 Detroit Tigers, 1924 Boston Red Sox and Oakland A's this year. It marked the third time that Texas had been the victim of a triple play this season. Gantner was ejected from the game.

In Friday night's game, Reggie Jackson of the Yankees charged pitcher Mike Caldwell, claiming that the pitcher had thrown at him. That' incident resulted in the ejection of Jackson. The Brewers defeated the Yankees 5-3 Sunday to sweep the three-game series. It was supposed to be the big series that people would later refer to as the turning point in another miracle comeback. "If I were you," warned Yankees manager Billy Martin, "I wouldn't count us out yet." "Don't put words into my mouth.

This team doesn't die so easily." Maybe not, but Sunday's loss dropped New York II games behind first-place Baltimore, which kept rolling right along with a 6-4 victory over Kansas City Royals. Hot-hitting Sixto Lez-cano, who took over the American League lead in batting with a .337 average, drove in two runs with a fifth-inning single and Bill Travers and Bob McClure combined on a nine-hitter to propel Milwaukee to the victory. Travers, 9-4, allowed only three singles through the first six innings before yielding a 40 Jackson and an RBI double to Piniella in the seventh. "I thought he was going at me and I didn't like it," Gantner said of the fracas. "It was just good hard baseball," added Milwaukee manager George Bamberger.

''I dropped my shoulder too low," Piniella said. "I made a mistake:" "The Yankees are dead," concluded Travers.
