Whatever it was, it certainly confused Philadelphia Manager Danny Ozark, "How can you account for us losing tonight with our best pitcher," Ozark wondered following the Philadelphia's 13-0 drubbing at the hands of the Montreal Expos. -Ozark may have been baffled by the loss that snapped the Phillies 13- game winning streak, the longest in the majors this season, but Expos' Manager Dick Williams and his Expos seemed to have all the answers especially when it concerned Steve Carlton's pitching. "They're an excellent club, but if you're going to get boat, that's the best way," Williams smiled after the game. "However, you'll see a different game tomorrow, and it sure won't be lopsided." A run-scoring single by SamMejias, Stan Bahnsen's perfect squeeze bunt, Dave Cash's single and Warren Cromartie's 35th double produced four Montreal runs in the second. In other National League action, St Louis blanked New York 2-0, Atlanta whipped Houston 9-6, Chicago edged Pittsburgh 42, San Diego defeated Cincinnati 7-4.

Forsch, 15-5, gave up a first-inning single to Bruce Bolsclair and a sixth-inning single to Lenny Handle in recording his sixth complete game of the season. Bobby Murcer drilled two home runs and Rick Reuschel struck out ll batters to give Chicago their second consecutive win over Pittsburgh.

Xenia was 6-4-1 last year in Anderson's third season and with the inexperience and lack of size this year any improvement on the record would be considered a fine season. It's a familiar story for Xenia. The first two units are adequate but depth will depend on how quickly the inexperienced but enthusiastic underclassmen develop. One of several combinations noticed yesterday included Paul Patterson at center, Tim Beam and Mike Jones at guards, Kevin Skeeters and Ted Bahns at tackles, Kurt Anderson at tight end and Eddee Pike or Steve Stidham at w.ide receiver. Mark Scott, Jim i Doug Bickett, Kerry Pickett and Dave Cozad were calling the quarterback plays.

Maurice (Mo) Wimbcrly and Frank Jones were in the backlield This was just one early combination and part of the preseason practice fun is to see who replaces whom on the depth chart. Padless drills continue through Friday. Scrimmages include Fairv lew and Belmont with finals session against Roth. Assisting Anderson this year are Ed IViignery, Ed Mullenix, Mack Bottorff, and Gale Adklns from last year plus newcomer Verble Walder, 30, of Dayton. Walder was All-State as a fine quarterback at Roth High where he graduated in 1065.
