Debbie Griglak to Compete For Many National Spelling Bee Prizes in Washington When Miss Debbie Griglak of; Mary Fuller a i Memorial School of vies with 71 other contestants in the 33rd 1 annual National Spelling Bee in Washington, D. C. June 6-11, she will not only be competing for the 'honor of winning the title of a tional spelling champion, but alsoj for the numerous prizes being offered by the Scnpps rioward newspapers, sponsors of the national bee.

A total of 72 contestants from all over the United States will participate in the bee. Cash awards totaling 55,700 will be paid to contestants. Every contestant in the bee, irrespective of where he or she finishes, will receive at least $50. First prize awards for the champ'on inc'ude a cash 1 prize, a loving cup, a plaque to I the champion's school and an ad-1 ditional S100 bonus for an escorted week-end trip to New York City immediately after the bee Washington. Second prize, for the will be $500.

Third prize will be. $250 and cash awards of S100 will' be given each of the next five places. Contestants who finish nine through 18, will each receive S75. Contestants finishing 19th through 72nd will each receive S50. Miss Griglak, earned the privilege of representing Western Pennsylvania in the national bee by winning the local spelling bee sponsored by The Daily Courier! in Connellsville in April and then defeating 64 other contestants from Pennsylvania school districts at Schenley High School in Pittsburgh, in May.

She will be accompanied by her mother, Mrs. Laddie L. Griglak and Miss Mane Snyder, a teacher and sponsor during the past three years of The Daily Courier's spelling bees at the Mary Fuller Frazier Memorial Junior High School in Perryopolis where Miss Griglak is an eighth, grade honor student. The group will fly to Washington with Joe Williams, promotion editor of the Pittsburgh Press and will stay at the Mayflower Hotel. Edward L.

Smith, circulation manager and spelling bee director of The Daily Courier will join the group in Washington Tuesday. Miss Griglak's week of sightseeing and entertainment will start immediately on her arrival in Washington, with a trip to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and a personal visit with its director. J. Edgar Hoover. If Miss Griglak can outspell the 71 contestants, her week of sightseeing and entertainment could end with TV appearances in New York City.
