Lee Ann Gradwell of Apollo, a veteran participant in our annual poll of the musical year, checks in with four single-spaced typewritten pages of comments.

"I really enjoy participating in the poll. Music is a big pan of my life and tracking the hits and misses each year is entertaining to say the least," Gradwell writes. In spotlighting romance, she says "most of the slow songs that are on the radio now have a different blend than.in previous years. The lyrics have more feeling and highlight the change in the times. It is refreshing to hear songs that convey depth rather than sordidness." The worst musical trend of the year, in Gradwell's opinion: Grunge.

"The songs aren't too bad, but the look of the groups and even the way the songs are played just don't do anything for me." For the second consecutive year. Nirvana makes her "worst" list. Their video In Bloom' is degrading to all the 1960s bands who performed on the old entertainment shows of that decade," she says. "And why a band who mumbles their way through songs can be as successful as Nirvana has been is beyond me." Her choice for group of the year is Expose. They are one of the most overlooked groups, yet the most successful girl group since me Supremes," Gradwell says.

They have had hit after hit with very Me acknowledgment and it is Vibrations Rex Rutkoskl past time'for their well-deserved recognition." Worst album of the year, in Gradwell's view, is "Black Sunday." "A pig in childbirth sounds better than this rancid band," she says. Among her other observations: "The duet by David Crosby and Phil Collins entitled 'Heroes' was a very touching song from a very complex and, to say the least, colorful man who has been in the industry for an extremely long time. I was really impressed by the song and the video." "Shaquille O'Neal needs to stick to basketball and stay out of the recording studio." The 1970s seem to be coming back. It's not only the clothes that are in style again and why I can't understand but also the music. I was amazed to hear The Bee Gees on the air again." "I think the stars of the future win be The Barrio Boys who have a ballad out called The Love That You Deserve' and the British group Take That, who have taken England and most of Europe by storm.

They are attempting to make the big cross-ov charts and I honestly believe they'll do just that" Rex Rutkodd open music for Go! (Rock-Pop) 8pm.
