SOAP OPERAS New formula 'Edge of Night' moving fast and furiously ST lb By JON-MICHAEL REED WI3 Untttd FMturt SyndlcH NEW YORK Under new headwriter Lee Sheldon, ABC's Edge of Night is adding a fresh bubble to the soap-opera formula. Instead of long, sustained, many-webbed plots, EON has embarked on an endeavor to spin and then end stories in a relatively swift period of time. Instead of the usual several months taken to resolve a crime-mystery plot, EON will begin and end stories within a few weeks. Also, there's a move to integrate a greater number of stories within each day's episode. For a half -hour serial, EON is moving fast and furious these days.

Pivotal characters, such as the Karrs and the Whitneys, are being shifted in new directions. For example, following the remarriage of Raven and Sky Whitney, who for two years have been embroiled in star-crossed romantic intrigues, the couple is being primed to assume more humorous character traits. EON may not identify them as such, but Raven and Sky are becoming the Nick and Nora Charles of daytime television. For those of you too young to remember, the Charleses were a fictional film duo who combined an upper-crust, sophisticated joie de vivre with a larkish ability to solve crimes and mysteries. SPEAKING OF weddings, the long-running romance of Lisa Loring (Cricket Montgomery on As the World Turns) and Doug Stevenson (formerly Lee Sentell on Search for Tomorrow) culminated in a wedding last weekend in New YThe couple co-starred with a former soaper, Carla Borelli (formerly Reena Dekker on Texas), in the off-Broadway play, Murder Without Crime.

Stevenson went to the nuptial altar with a black eye, a result of a too-accurate slug during a performance of the play. Loring breathed a sigh of relief that her contract with ATWT was renewed. She had been considering moving to the West Coast with Stevenson, but didn't look forward to returning to the scene of her childhood stardom as bizarre little Wednesday on The Addams Family TV series. Loring evidently doesn't hold fond memories of those wanted to go to school and be with friends my age she said. "But because I was on TV, I was always the one' the other kids picked on.

They'd say, 'See her? She's the one who's a big star. She's such a It wasn't true, but it kept me separated from others my age, and it was painful. i ieA i nmiMfl. DOUG STEVENSON Long-running romance culminated In a wedding As the actor said, "Rick's plot has been stalemated in a dumb story line for years." Now that Dr. Rick may have cardiac problems of his own, "stale" might turn into "terminal." FOLLOWING THE long-awaited on-screen nuptials of Nola and Quint on Guiding Light, the couple embarked on an Irish honeymoon that involves them in a "magic romance and mystery" story through the next few weeks.

The plot involves a legend of two lovers who have not rested peacefully in their graves for centuries. Central to the plot is the blarney-talking Innkeeper, Shamus Brodie, played by serial-veteran character actor Joseph Maher. Also joining the show is another soap veteran, Stephen Joyce, who plays Annabel's father, Eli Sims, who holds the key to another mystery plot Involving Tony Rear-don's father and Henry Chamberlain. ONE LIFE TO UVE'S Jeff Fahey (Gary Corelh) and his lady love, Marguerite Hickey, report that 1984 is targeted for their marriage union. "The time has come to think about setting a date, Fahey said "I love her, and my mind is made up.

My family thrilled with the news. Every one of my seven brothers and five sisters are anxious for Marguerite to join the Fahey fold I've been on my own since age 17 in search of adventure and travel. Now, at age 30, I'm ready to settle down." JOHN DE LANClfc, wno piays tugeue biouwiu of Our Lives, has temporarily put marriage to actress Marnie Mosiman on the back burner. Mosiman is starring in the Los Angeles production of the play, Cloud Nine, and since de Lancie's story line as Eugene is very hot and active at the moment, the plannned wedding won't be possible until the couple's schedules cool off. CHRIS ROBINSON (Rick Webber on General Hospital) is taking short leaves from the ABC soap to organize a new museum in Page, Ariz.

The actor is an amateur archeologist, and his museum features one of the largest collections of prehistoric American Indian art and artifacts in the world. Many of the objects were excavated by Robinson, who charters a jet to fly from Los Angeles to Page when he Isn busy on GH which occurs often these days. 8 w. 17. 1983 TVDateBook.
