Market Shows Some Recovery NEW YORK The stock market staged an irregular recovery early today in moderately active trading. IBM recouped about 3 points of loss. Polaroid won back 2 paints. Control Data, in the computer field, added about 2 points. Steels were narrowly mixed following the fifth, straight week of declining steel production.

Chrysler opened down Vt at 61 then erased the loss and moved-to a small net gain. Most other auto stocks nudged to the upside. Amerada was down more than a point. Other oils were mixed. Xerox gained about 2.

Pan American World Airways was up a full point. Rails were mixed, with Illinois Central and Chesapeake Ohio gaining fractions. Similar gains were made by American Tele- Al HARLOW-HARDY phone, Union Carbide, U.S. Rub her, Liggett Myers and Johns Manville. Yesterday the Associated Press average of 60 stocks dipped 1.7 to 269.2.
