Hemlines Cause Posture Problem By BETTY CANARY Newspaper Enterprise Assn. Tile straight-backed chair posture went out when the mini came in and I think a brand new medical problem is coming up as a direct result of this. I wonder if the medical profession is aware of it. The thing is, I am afraid women are going to get premature dowagers' humps caused by bending over constantly to grab their hems when they are seated. I want to say right (here that I am not anti-mini.

I think a few of the teen-agers I have seen wearing them look darling. The key word is "few." Ameri- irls. Very few contenders and voila! the Miss Prettylegs title. As far as shoes go (and they! Use Ground Meat Quickly By GAYNOR MADDOX Newspaper Enterprise Assn. How long is it safe to keep ground meat in the refrigerator? A Ground meat is more perishable than steaks or roasts because it has been ground and more of the meat's "surface" is exposed. Therefore purchase only that amount that can be used in two days unless you have a freezer. Remove the store wrappings and cover lightly with waxed paper. Store it in the coldest part of the refrigerator and use as soon as possible.

For longer storage in a freezer, try freezing the ground meat in patties. For easy separation, put two layers of waxed paper between the patties. Then wrap the patties in freezer paper or in plastic bags and freeze at zero. The frozen patties can be stored thi way from 2 to 3 months. When buying ground meat, look for that which has a bluish red color.

This indicates that the meat has been freshly ground. Honeydew melons are in my market. How can I tell which ones are ripe? A When selecting a honeydew, note both the color anc feel of the skin. It should be creamy yellow or, if grown in northern California or Latin America, a sort of straw-white When you run your hand over the surface, it should have the feel of kidskin gloves. If it has a hard, slick exterior it wa probably picked too green.

Ev en though your honeyde.w is beautifully ripe by these stand ards, allow a day or two of con ditioning at room temperature This gives the melon time to develop juiciness. Did you know that honeydew, like cantaloupe, has the best bouquet when served at room temperature or just cool, rather than when cold? mothers. The daughters all seem to either have stems a la Twiggy or great, fat, round, elephant legs. The -word "limb" belongs tc the mothers. Twig or runk fits the young ones.

I think they should -take a tip 'rom the songmakers. After all, the message is watching the go BY. Nobody seems to want to go after them. I don't where all the ynny legs are coming from but I do know the new fashion in shoes and stockings don't help things. White stockings, like white anything, makes one look rigger.

And, the sagging knees and ankles of tights (necessary wearing minis) add nothing the contour of the calf. Then, is fishnet hosiery. Fishnet is very big this year. I am convinced this is the result of a de- THE APPROACHING marriage of Miss Linda Marie Hall to Kermit Gale son of Mr. and Mrs.

We can all wear sandals dur-i ing the summer, though, and if you want to leave off stockings I there are all sorts of new leg make-up in striking shades of bright green, purple and blue. I don't think this is quite as effective with a simple little shift as it is if you go all the way. You have to wear a plastic: mini and one of the new with electric lights flashing.

Wide open spaces tell one fashion story in a new group of see-through tops and mini-dresses for beach and casual wear. In stark black or sparkling white these are perfect cover- ups for bikinis. And for the daring, they are pert and pretty worn over a minislip.

They also do wonders for bringing "out a deep Caribbean tan. Knit tops to team with this year's multilength pants and shorts come in adventurous color. Ponce blue pairs -with Condado orange and Convento purple with Rain Forest green in both prints and and stripes. Terry shirts and beach dresses are the last word in sophistication. And terry tank tops worn the shortest shorts ever or.

Skinny tank tops come in such styles as a Marseilles sailor shirt, and on longer-length tops there are scooped, squared and plunging necklines. These are in red, white and navy, solids or strips and are great when teamed with short shorts or cuffed or straightleg ged trousers. Casuals for wear in the sun have never been brighter or more comfortable than this sea son's crop.
