Ohio (A0) A presidential commission goes ahead today with hearings on the May 4 shooting deaths of four Kent State University students after rejecting a state appeal to post pone the probe. The nine members of the President's Commission on Campus Unrest reportedly assured state officials at a private meeting last night that the probe would not interfere with 'a planned grand jury investigation. John McElroy, top aide to Gov. James A. Rhodes, and two representatives of the Ohio attorney general met with the commission for more than an hour.

Yurchak and Laska Yurchak, former area residents, recently returned from four years of active duty in Vietnam.

Major Yurchak's first tour began September, 1964, and he served as advisor to the ARVN at battalion, regimental and division level for a period of two years. He also served with the 2nd Battalion, Infantry 196th Light Infantry Brigade in the American Division as company commander, operations officer and executive officer for one year. For an additional year and a half he served as advisor to the Government of Vietnam at district, province and region as signments. The Major conducted research and wrote a draft ad visors' manual for territorial security in Vietnam. He received the following decorations: Silver Star, Bronze Star with two oak leaves, Air Medal with Oak Leaf, Purple Heart with Oak Leaf, for injuries sustained 'when jbi mine exploded beneath the jeep in which he was riding.

He also received the Commendation Ribbon, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with two Palms from the government of Vietnam and the Silver and Bronze Stars. He is currently assigned to duty with the State Department as an instructor; at the Foreign Service Institute in Washington. He is a resident of Harding making his home with, an uncle, Philip A. Jurchak. He is a nephew of Thomas B.
