It's Mike's legs," said Hyndman. "If they give out we're lost. Otherwise I am very confident," The sole survivor of 34 Americans originally entered in the 1965 title play was talking about his 65-year-old caddie, Mike McCormack, who is just about the last of a dying breed. Said Mike: "Mr. Hyndman can worry about his own legs. I'll take care of mine." Throughout his sub-par march nings, and unbeaten Arizona fourth round of the College World Series Thursday night. And it has paid off. The 6-foot-3 Hyndman and the 5-foot-2 McCormack make a strange looking pair. But their combined golfing skill has resulted in the American playing four cracking rounds in a total of eight-under-par 72 on the 6,700-yard Royal Porthcawl links, Hyndman defeated Scot'-'nd's Ronnie Shade 2 and 1; R. D, James of England 4 and 3; Mike Bills of England 7 and fi, and Colin Strachan of Scotland lup. His biggest hurdle to d a t e came up today in the form of Clive Clark, 19-year-old English youth who 'has risen like a rocket in the past year. Clark is a virtual certainty for the British Walker Cup team and he j u s t i f i e d this confidence Thursday when he defeated defending ch a m p i o n Gordon Clark, who is no relative, 4 and 3 in the fifth round. Fines FO//OW Airport Episode Yankees Learn Keane Can fie Tough Manager .By Jack Hand Of the Associated Press · New York, June 11 The most important development of the latest New York Yankee fiesta may be the emergence of Johnny Keane as a get-tough manager. . John is not the type to swing the big club but the Yankees are finding out that this slim, quiet man can whip up a storm. He backs up his men as he did Roger Ma'ris and Clete Boyer after the bar incident at Fort Lauderdale, Fla. this spring. But when he thinks the boys have stepped a little too far out of line, he can drop the bomb. Ralph Houk, Yankee vice- president and general manager, actually announced the fines in Kansas City Wednesday night. Houk said it was Keane's decision to fine three unidentified Yankees $250 each for .breaking training. Those privileged to listen behind clubhouse doors say Keane really blistered the Yanks in a pre - game meeting Monday night. When some of the Yankees were cavorting in the airport bar in Newark, N. J., Sunday night during a 2yi-hour delay, Keane waited at the gate with announcing continued 15-minute delays, various Yanks came to the gate to check.'It was obvious to Keane that some of the boys were relaxing too much to suit him. Called Houk A phone. call from Keane to Houk, after the club finally arrived in.Kansas City early .Monday morning, set the stage for the fines, Keane has discovered that the Yankees" close up are something different from the Yan- ees at long range. He leaned over backwards to get to know his new players when he stepped into the job as Yogi Berra's successor. If there has been grumbling, it has b e e n done quietly. Little has leaked out to the public. In some ways, there is a parallel between Keane and the late Miller Huggins, the little man who had the tough job of keeping Babe Ruth and his playmates in line, Huggins, too, came to New York f r o m St. Louis. Unlike Keane, who never played in the big leagues, Huggins had considerable big league background as an infielder. The Cardinals quickly learned about Keane, who had toiled When Ray Sadecki, a young left-handed pitcher, didn't convince Keane he was putting everything he had into his efforts, Keane shunted him off to Atlanta, Sadecki came up a 20- jgame winner last' season for Keane's pennant winners. It will be interesting to watch the Yankee situation, now that Keane has asserted his author- jity. Keane walks softly but he has a big club in that locker. his wife. While the airline kept (for years in the farm system. 3 SITES RECOMMENDED FOR 1972 OLYMPICS Mamaia, Romania, June 11 CAP) The International Ski Federation decided to recommend Banff, Canada; Lahti, Finland, and Sapporo, Japan, to the International Olympic Committee as sites of the 1972 W i n t e r Olympics. Agerpress, t h e Romanian news agency, .said the recommendations were made in this order by the annual FIS congress meeting in this Black Sea resort. The three bidders lost out to Grenoble, France, for the 19S8 games, awarded by the IOC congress at Innsbruck, Austria, during last year's winter Olympics. QUESTION... "How Do You Spell 'Paint'?"
