Later he settled into roles as t. kindly and wise old-timer, often a rascal and sometimes a bit rakish, as in "The Pleasure of His Company." Two Series on TV He starred in two short-lived television series, The Ruggles and The World of Mr. Sweeney. In 1958-59 he returned to the Broadway stage for 'Th Pleasure of His Company." Death came at St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica.

A member of a subcommittee of the President's Commission on the Status of Women in 1963, she also served as a delegate for the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions at meetings of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women in 1962-63.
