20-- WEDNESDAY, OCT. 29, 1969--NEWS-RECORD NHHS teacher visits two students in Europe Germany is a long way to go to visit former students, but Robert Haubrich, a i a of the social studies department at North Hills High School, did it this summer. Haubrich spent the traveling in Eastern Europe and included visits to two former American. Field Service exchange students. He visited Wolfgang Busch who attended West View High School in 195253.

Wolfgang is married" and has one child. He lives in Heilbronn and is a financial executive for an automobile manufacturer. Wolfgang Fengler of Stuttgart was in North Hills High School in 1966-67. He is now an apprentice to an apothecary (druggist). He plans to attend a university to get a degree in pharmacy.

Haubrich also visited Walter Irion who attended Washington High School, Washington, Pa. Haubrich haj? visited Europe eight of the last ten summers. This summer he visited Poland, Hungary, Roumania, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia and East Germany. It was his first visit to East Germany. He said people were willing to talk about their disillusionment with the government.

Haubrich hadn't been in Poland since 1958. People now seem more open, friendly and ready to talk. He said dealings in black market currency are conducted on the sidewalks instead of in dark rooms as they used to be. Czechoslovakia was calm, Haubrich said. Haubrich brought back pver 600 slides of his trip.

Student council elected at McKnight Elementary North Allegheny' Nine students commended for high scores on tests The McKnight School students in grades 4, 5, and 6 have re-elected representatives to its student council. Mrs. Sandra Danahey is the sponsor. Representatives are Steve Ramser, David Tyson, Cathy Sanders, Cindy Fern, Lisa George, Danny Donnelly, Beth Rothenback, Elizabeth Oglesbee and Joe Farinelli. Alternates are Elizabeth Fowler.

Newspaper at Vincentian rated excellent a i a i i a i School's student newspaper, has been given a first class (excellent) rating by the National Scholastic Press Association. The paper received a mark of distinction (superior achievement) for its editorials. About 1,600 papers were in the contest.

Vincentian's juniors will hold their 't annual Ring Night Friday, Nov. 7, in the auditorium. The theme is "A Rising Sun, a Glow of Hope." The class officers will preside. Linda Saffron is decorations chairman and Karen Weir will organize the program. Communication Arts is the name of a new class at Vincentian.

It covers reading, speaking and writing, fun and academic. Ross girl finalist in Powers contest Celeste R. Ponteri, 17, a senior at North Hills High School, was a finalist in the "Powers Girl of the Year" contest. Celeste- is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.

Joseph. A. Pon- teri, 110 Violet Ross. She is studying modeling at Pow- Celeste rs School. Her hobbies include skiing, skating and twirling.
