Sunday News BPW meeting at Diamond Thursday DIAMOND (Special) The Business and Professional Women's Club of Diamond met Thursday at 6:30 p.m. for a dinner and meeting In the dining room at the "71" Truck Stop Restaurant. Mrs. Vivian Taylor, president, conducted the business meeting. It was announced that the club will give a tea for the Senior Girls of the Diamond High School on May 9.

Mrs. Margaret Leathers gave a talk about her trip to the recent B.P.W. State Convention which was held in Kansas City. A discussion was held during the evening on the subject of "Drugs." Also it was installation night for the Diamond Club as the new officers for the coming year were installed. They are President, Margaret Leathers; 1st Vice President, Evelyn Hency; 2nd Vice President, Wanda Beyer; Recording Secretary, Sandy Cullum; Corresponding Secretary, Gladys Bowman; and Treasurer, Katheryn Bowers.

Attending the dinner-meeting were Mrs. Hattie Stafford, Mrs. Alma Schaffter, Mrs. Eva Cohu, Mrs. Vivian Taylor, Mrs.

Property changes, improvements many in Stella area STELLA (Special) The Stella Drive-In, now owned by Mrs. Rosie Southern, had been closed during the winter months, and during the time it has taken on a new look. Two rooms have been added, a recreation room and a new kitchen, also new equipment. It is now open. A mobile home was moved on a lot next door to Mrs, Beulah Thomas.

It belongs to Mr. and Mrs. Pete Hance. No one is living in it as yet. More work is to be done, Mr.

and Mrs. Glen Richardson have purchased a small trailer house and placed it back of their home west of Main This past week members of the Masonic Lodge have had the front of the Masonic building on Main Street painted. Mr. and Mrs. James Cowan and two children have become residents in Stella.

They are now living in the Mrs. Bob Stiger residence property. Mrs. Gail Carter is no longer the beauty operator in town. She sold out to Debbie House, rural Granby, who took over recently.

Don Barnett and son moved down from Independence, a few days ago into one of the cabins back of the post office. He has bought the Stella cafe from Mrs. Dick Granger, and took over a week ago. Everyone is happy to see Main Street paved and the other streets will all be done before the project is finished. Mr.

and Mrs. Richard Granger have bought the property belonging to E. T. Sumler, and he will be moving out of town soon and the Grangers will take possession of the plac'e. Mr.

Coffman has the basement dug and other work done towards the new home he is building in Stella. He started it quite some time ago and is working at it as he has the time. The new home of Mr. and Mrs. Bill McMurtrey on their farm just out of Stella is slowly shaping up as he is doing about all the work himself and is not in any hurry to get it finished.

Dick Granger purchased the town property and contents belonging to Mr. and Mrs. Joe Schell in Stella. Mr. Schell's grandson, Max Naramore, flew here from California and they returned home with Max by plane and plan to make their home there near he and his family.

Mr. and Mrs. Lavon Kearney, who are living at Granada Hills, have sold their home there and a few months ago had bought the Link property. The Kearneys expect to arrive here to make their home about May 14. They are retiring.

Connie Daniels is festival winner DIAMOND(Special) Connie Daniels, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jackie B. Diamond, was a winner at the Evaluating Music Festival which was held on Friday and Saturday at the University of Missouri in Columbia. Miss Daniels received a one-rating for her piano solo.

She is a freshmen student at the Diamond High School. On Friday five young people were picked for the top awards with Connie being chosen as one of the five. CTA SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS Four Neosho High School seniors have been selected as recipients of the Neosho Community Teachers Assn. scholarships. From left are Eddie Milliard, Beth Ann Wilson, Jeanne Stover School officials meet at dinner Scholarship winners and new officers were named and retiring teachers honored at the annual joint NCTA-Neosho Board of Education dinner held Friday night at the Neosho High School cafeteria.

Winners of the four scholarships sponsored by the Neosho Community Teachers Association were Beth Ann Wilson, Jeanne Stover, Donald Ball and Eddie Hilliard. The scholarships were presented by Mrs. Phyllis Shaffer, chairman of the Scholarship Committee. New officers named for the 1974-75 school year for the NCTA are Leon Riddle, high school, president; Bonnie Cox, Intermediate, vice president; Gene Ferguson, junior high school, secretary; Joyce Paullus, South School, treasurer and Joyce Crumbliss, Goodman, reporter. Mrs.Paullus presented special gifts to Mrs.

Wilma Boyer and Mrs. Lena Vaughan, teachers at Goodman. who will retire this year. Lewis Cole, board president, made a few remarks and the main speaker was the Rev. Arnold Prater, Joplin, District Superintendent for the United Methodist Church.

Musical entertainment was furnished by Mrs. Ann Hamilton, director of.student activities at the high school. Baby shower at Baptist Church DIAMOND (Special) A come and go shower was held Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. for Miss Trina Kyger, baby daughter of Mr. and Mrs.

Johnny Kyger, in the fellowship hall of the First Baptist Church in Diamond. There were many gifts which were placed under a pink and white umbrella, with 'pink streamers. Attending the showere were: Mrs. Opal Marble, Mrs. Amy Wheeler, Mrs.

Irene Kyger, Mrs. Fern Kyger, Mrs. Bonnie Brower, Mrs. Leila Ann White, Mrs. Karen Whitson, Mrs.

Cindy Granger, Mrs. Sandy Judd, Mrs. Mary Sallee, Mrs. Sandy Springer, Mrs. Ruby Sweet, Mrs.

Several persons sent gifts who were unable to be present for the shower. Refreshments of punch and cake were served. Book review to be given May 28 Mrs. Thelma Douglas, Neosho, will give a book review at the Little Theater in the Neosho High School at 7:30 p.m. May 28.

She will review Richard Ketchum's new biography of Will Rogers. The event is sponsored by the Newton County Town and Country Regional Library. WINS FIRST PLACE Linda Pruitt, Marionville High School senior, was named first place winner in the spelling event at the Missouri Future Business Leaders of America State Leadership Conference held in Jefferson City recently. Linda is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.

August Pruitt, Marionville, formerly of Neosho, and the granddaughter of Mrs. Agnes Pruitt, 505 Maple St. Linda was first place winner in the District meet at Missouri Southern State College in Joplin in March, which entitled her to enter the state competition in Jefferson City. She and her chapter advisor, Mrs. Mary Fussell, will go to San Francisco, in June to compete in the spelling event at the F.B.L.A.

(Daily News Photo) NHS members Mrs GeorgiaBrown are initiated feted on birthday The McDonald County Chapter of the National Honor Society held its annual initiation ceremonies in the McDonald County High School gymnasium at 10:40 a.m; April 11. Speeches were presented by Fred Holt, co-sponsor of the NHS chapter; Marinelle Blowers, president; Janice Lipe, vice president; Morris Barter, secretary; Kevin Blecha, treasurer; and Debbie Hanna, chaplain. Mrs.

Jennibel Paul served as co-ordinator of the tap- out ceremony and program. The new initiates were: Seniors John Early, Bob Yearsley, Larry Ford, Carole Hall, Terry Harvey, Grant Mitchell, and Robert Stabuer; juniors Virginia Hewett, Debbie Nyader, Mary Reehm, Greg Eads, John Owen, Joanna Edmonds and Kim Brock; and sophomores Kevin Easter, Valerie Bartley and Kay Lewis. and the mother of Floyd Happy of Stella, celebrated her 93rd birthday, April 27. On Saturday a birthday dinner was planned in her honor at the home of a grandson and wife, Mr. and Mrs. John Happy, rural Jenkins. Two birthday cakes were brought, also lots of food as well as several gifts.

Pictures were taken of four generations and of the entire group. She enjoyed the drive to Jenkins for they took her by Powell and passed by the farms on Sugar Creek and Mikes Creek where she had spent her childhood days. She was born on a farm near Rocky Comfort. Mrs. Brown is in good health, lives alone and does all of her housework.

Her hobby is quilting and piecing quilts. She always has a garden and especially enjoys making preserves and jellies to give to friends and relatives who come to visit. Present for the family get- together were Floyd and Percy Happy and Bessie Cullers of Stella; Esther Schell, Washburn Route; Russell Happy, Los Angeles, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Happy and son, Pittsburg, Mr.
