They disposed of the Dominion Motors In a good exhibition that was fought out on the nlp-and-tuck basis from start to finish. There was no score for the first two periods but In the third the league leaders put on an extra burst of speed.

Finally with about five minutes to go Clarence Good ripped in a shot from left wing that found the fish net and it proved to be the only goal of the game. The Dominion Motors put up a valiant attack in their effort to find the net, but the elongated Ben Chivers, who never saw so many pucks In his life as he did la-sat night, was steady aa a rock and kept his nets clear. In the opening game the Dodge team turned back the McLaughlins 2-1 and in the final event of the evening Breens finished on the short end of the 3-1 score. It was an enjoyable evening of good hockey. Everton, Huddersfleld, Newcastle United and Leicester City, the top four clubs In the first division of the English, all dropped the full points. There were many who expected Huddersfleld to be beaten at Cardiff, Newcastle United were looked upon as winners against Blackburn Rovers, while Leicester were conceded a sporting chance at lnn-rhester, but no one expected Kver-ton to be beaten at home by Tottenham. The old gng ciunn un nitain on Saturday ufter the result of the matches were known. Huddersfleld were holding themselves for tho cup tie next week. Leicester City were doing the same, Manchester City HKeiy played some reserves at Oldham, and bo on.

This is what those Interested In the games were saving. put (Ion nelleve It. and every one of these clubs wanted the points. What had Hudderstleld to gain bv dropping the points at Cardiff. If they had won they would have gone to tne ncaa or tne nrst division for the first time this season and the dropping of tho points by Manchester City cost them "the leadership of tne second envision, vvhlcli Is the most important, the second division championship or the cup to Manchester? It is the league, for with the championship comes promotion, and it is a sure bet that the City would much prefer a position In tho higher circle than the English cup.

www Manchester United won the full points from Leicester C'ltv. and both clubs are still in the hunt for the cuo. The United won by live goals to two, and Birmingham, who will be the visitors at Manchester, will not relish this trip. Birmingham were beaten on Saturday at Bolton. The two Sheffield teams are still In the running for the K.

A. honors. Strange that they should be beaten on Saturday, Wednesdays on their own grounds by Middlesbrough who are scheduled to visit the homo grounds of Htiddorslleld. www Arsenal did will to get a point against West Ham United, and their opponents. In tho next r.mnd of the cuo, collected the full points against hnefTlela United.

1 ne two second division teams which will meet at Manchester were both defeated. Stoke were well beaten at Blackpool and Manchester City lost by the odd gonl at Oldham, filnckhurn Hovers won and so dad Port Vale. When these teams meet at Blackburn the game Is going to be much closer than many think. Notts Forest should have done better at home against Hull City than thev did. As their opponents, Cardiff City, beat Huddersfleld the chances of the visiting eleven looks better.

The dropping of a point brought the Forest stock down In the football market. There are 16 teams left In the F. A. competition, of which Birmingham, The Wednesdays, Sheffield United, Leicester City, Manchester City, Stoke City and Huddersfleld were beaten in league football on Saturday. Seven of the 16.

and fur thermore, two of them could not do better than draw. Thnt means that only seven clubs were strong enough to get the full points. www The results appear to favor those who maintain that the clubs In the F. A. competition had no desire to win Inst Suttirdny.

But the victory of Tottenham over Everton at Oood- Ison pnrk, the win of Middlesbrough nt Sheffield and the dividing of the points by Arsenal more than kills this line of argument.
