Jo reason for this is given by the commission, although we believe that most listeners were tiring of an hour old time music. However. It is rnnouno ed that the remainder of the hour will be taken up by a dance orchestra or other suitable entertainment T.ie program replacing Eddie Cantor, featuring Rublnoff and hi orchestra, Bert Lahr, comedian, IKi.nay Bailey an.1 Lee Elms, and the mystery drama, seems to be very a weak replacement. Except for the fine violin playing by Rubin off and parla of Bert Lahr' comedy, the show Isn't up to much.

There eem to bs lornething missing. Perhaps it Is the Cantor personality or perhaps It's Just the poor quillty of the entertainment. Lee Sims at the piano and Ilomay Bailey singing, are fine in their respective fields, but together eti the Sunday program have failed to ring the bell. The Louis Vance mystery eeriat haa turned out to be Just another gang story, with Erin O'Brien Moore aa the pretty heroine, and even Jimmy the announcer, seem to have loat hi pep. Commission's Variety Thursday evening we heard one of the most enjoyable and entertaining of the Radio Commission programs, the Canadian Hour.

This program had opera and concert music intermingled with popular songs an.1 folk tunes. True, most of the songs were sung in but this added to the piquancy of the hour. Yes, the Canadian Hour is one of the Commission's best features and we hope it continues its high standard of varied entertainment. With the help of the above program, CKY presented one of the most varied evening's entertainment we've heard from that station in a long time. Varied Throughout The fisrt part of the evening was given to two very Interesting talks: one by Mlae Hilda Hesen and the other by Professor Jackson.

Next came the Melody Mill with It usual varied entertainment, then the Commission broadcast. Cowboy anl old time miuic waa supplied by the Roundup Rangers, whq were followed by tbe studio concert orchestra. Dave and hi sax were featured In a 15 minute program, followed by the dance orchestra. The station signed off with the usual Organ Reveries. A few mere evening with such a varied lineup of entertainment as was heard Thursday and the CKY criticism would sharply doclln.

Cantor's Critics "Don't pay any attention to radio columnists." said Eddie Cantor 5vhile speaking before a group of advertising men In New York. Just af er his final coffee broadcast. "Ridio criticism among the radio editors, especially of New York, has simmered down to a log rolling proposition with the columnist favoring thoee who favor him," continues Cantor. Well. Is that nice, Mr.

Cantor? We notice that you very tactfully waited until your pre. grams hid concluded before making a statement Ilk that. Eddie seems to have been the roost criticized radio artist on the air. Perhaps was due to his being good or bad. ss It appeared to each individual writer.

It is evident that the New York columnist didn't get on very well 5vlth h'm. Prrsomllv we judged Cantor by rich of his pograms. If thought them end we satl bo and II good we alro Slid so. Radio Censors Have you noticed lately that when some of the popular songs of the day notably those from Street." and the nopular tune "Hell Bells" are sung over the air, the radio singers usually use words or phrase different from the original numbers. The reason for this Is that both the big networks have their own censoring board to cut out any "off color'' material that may appear In soncs or dialogue.

Kor Instance. Ted Florlto. leader of a popular west const orehistra. heard over CBS. was recently called down for allowing one of his vocalists to sing the original words of "42nd Street." and "Young and Heal.hy," CBS censors claimed the original word were a trifle too vivid to be broadcast over their network.

Another chse waa at NBC where their censors, after letting It go for nearly a year, suddenly made Veteran' rooms, MeDermot Thureday at 7.30 o'clock. The program will commcne; at 8 o'clock and all member who can attend are urged to do o. They my obtain their card from their club representative on the executive of the league. A good program has been arranged. Major General Ket chen will officiate at the presentation of the prize unlo; he i called away from the city.

a rule that all orchestras playing Art Rasser "Hell's Bell" muBi have their vocalists hum the refrain. Supporting Damroich So you ee the occasional "blue" remark or song, may pass the censors, but not many. Censors are paid to have sharp ears as both networks prefer to keep their listeners rather than have them tune elsewhere because so and so's program i unfit to llitsn to. The networks the line have made it quite a boast that they depend on advertising revenue to meet the coat of their programs.
