Heartily All Plaats of Cora Product Itrfinlns Company Mult Be He habilitated. Flans are now being, worked out by the leading interests in the Chicago Subway company which will likely result In rearrangement of the financial holdings of that company. The most important step in contemplation is the putting out of an issue of Chicago Subway bonds to be exchanged for the present outstanding Illinois Tunnel 5s.

may be stated with authority that such anion is now under serious contemplation, although no decision has been reached. Tne authorized issue of Illinois Tunnel 5 per eent bonds amounts to of which have been issued. In addition J4.I Oo.OOO worth of the bonds have been put up to t-oure'a loan c( J3.CC0.0t'O obtained from Kuhn, Lot-b it Co. The proceeds of this loan are being used in pushing the construction work in the tunnels. The loan falls due Dec.

1, and the proposed reorganization plans include ttking care of the loan in some manner. The intcrt-s; dates tor the Tunnel bonds are June 1 and Dec. 1, and the bonds are redecm-tbie on either of these dates at 1C5." per cent snd accrued interest. It is therefore possible that the plaT.s will be worked out and put in Deration before be next interest dale, which is June 1. The present issue of Illinois Tunnel bonds covers all the property at present owned or to be acquired by the luuuel coni-fcfciiy- Artlir Operations to Benin Soon.

While the earnings of the company at present are small, it is announced that by June 1 the tunnels will be In condition to carry a large amount of tonnage between the railroad stations and the different office buildings in the down town district. This will give the company a regular basis of earnings, which will be increased as the construction work progresses. At the same time the Illinois Telegraph and Telephone company, whose property is covered by the present Issue of Tunnel bonds, is pushing Into the residence districts, and promises before the end of the summer to be making substantial earnings. With these prospective increases in Subway earnings there should be a much better market for the securities in the (next few months than is now afforded, and it I. .11 Int PUS rtf rf il i 18 posSlDie ILal lue laming eompanv who are working out the new Brian- lal arrangement will not attempt to placv? any new securities on the market until that time.

According tf excellent La Salle report yesterday? the directors of the Metropolitan Klevatfd Railroad company have decided to yield to the withes of a large proportion of tht stockholders, and will start a dividend on the preferred at their August ireeting. On the stork exchange COO shares of the preferred nock were which is a very active market, considering the closeness w'th which the stock is held.

Most cf the buying was by A. O. Slaughter Co. The stork opened at 68, and acvanced an eighth. The reports of the dividend prospects emanated from sources that are particularly well Informed in Metropolitan matters.

According to the lat annual report the company earned 3.68 ptr cent for the preferred ftock last year, after reducing tho funded debt $500,000. and paj Ing over J2O0.C00 for maintenance of structure and equipment. The comnanv has a surplus of approximately $V00 000. and the earnings are rapidly in- rf-afinir Moreover, the company owns its i entire right of way. and is in no danger of ever becoming involved with the city over Iracchise matters.

Apparently, therefore, the directors wll! rot overstepping the bounds of conservatism in inaugurating a disbursement for the benefit of the preferred stockholders, who have received r.o returns from the stock since February. 1903. Cora Product Reflnlag. President E. T.

Bedford of the Corn Prod-nets Refining company is now in Chicago. With regard to the company's earning power and dividend possibilit iei he says "While I do not wish to discourage stockholders, at the same lime I do not think it fair that they should be allowed to foster unwarranted hopes regarding the immediate future of the company, which they might gain from some of the unauthorized statements regarding the company's earning power and Its dividend possibilities. The company Is doing as well as could be expected, but a amount of money will be required for extensions and improvements. "To begin with. It will be necessary to almost completely remodel come of the plants of the Corn Products" company which were taken over.

The Peoria plant, for Instance, it In such bad shape that we shall have to build a new one there, and plans are now under consideration for Its Ion. Several other plants are In such a condition that the Insurance rate on them Is virtually prohibitive, and heavy expenditures will be required to put them In first class condition-, which It is our intention to do. I might say 'that two-thirds of the plants taken over by the Corn Products Refining company are iu need of extensive Improvements, and thai the other one-third are now furnishing the bulk of the profits of the company. "The current earnings of the company are materially handicapped by the high price of corn, and also by the advance In cost of fuel supplies. Unless we advance the price of glucose products, which we arc not Inclined to do, the net profit on sales Is consequently necessarily reduced." CM Telephone.

La Salle street yesterday had a report supposedly from the highest inside quarters that the directors of the Chicago Telephone company are considering a cut in the dividend rate from 10 to 5 per cent. Prlsr to 1902 for several years the company paid 12 percent annually. Since the first quarter of 1902 the company has paid 10 per cent. The lower rate is said to be rendered necessary by the. big slash in earnings that will follow proposition made to the city for a new franchise.

An official of the Banker' National bank ays: "We have money loaned In New York at 6 per cent on four months' time, and nothing loaned below per cent." Raik Slalrnt Foreri a Owing to the announcement of the receipt of a large amount of money In New York from Canada and the interior, a much better bank statement is anticipated today. While the banks lost money elsewhere, it is believed the shipments from Canada and the interior ill offset all losses, with nearly to spare.

At the same time loans were cut down materially, both through stock market liquidation and by transfer to London account. It is believed that the banks will be able to show a small surplus above legal requirement. First alloaal Biak. Later that stock recovered ail its loss and the K(nerallist improved. In view of the narrow market small buying sufficed to force gooJ 1 rallies. Some of the buying was called short covering, although scattered operations were the rule, and there was little evidence that big operators or bankers were active. Some of the early selling was tased 00 the anthracite coal situation. This was considered more unfavorable than recently, and especially as negotiations leading to a eldemeot have beta declared In well Informed circles the prospect cf a long hard coal strike is held to be more threatening than before.

At the same time there Is believed to be still a possibility of further conferences and arbitration. Although there was a disposition to await farther developments in the money market, the fact that money was easier, with 6 per cent the highest for call rates and reductions In quotations tor lime funds, was a factor in the more confident tone. The same was true of the- predictions of a good bank atement tomorrow. Some improved trad ports and the favorable exhibit of domestic imports Ial month were also bullish influences.
