Sqt 196.1 WELLSyijlE DAILY. YORK Page. Five Braves Bow to Elmira Introducing Jim Flynn Sixfh-lnning Fracas Marks Pioneer Win; Aid Drop Due Tonight By FRANK CADY Everything happened lust night at Tullar Field. Elmfra's Pioneers won the ball ganu; 5-2 to salvage the final contest of the three-game set, but the. big fireworks took place- in the sixth inning.

The stage was set for the fracas early in 'die game. Klmira's Bud Jamison opened the evening with i a homer starter Dick Loiselle, on Jamison's next trip to the plate, one of Loiselle's pitches was in tight, but by no means a dustc-r. Jamison gave Luiscllu a stare and a few words were exchanged. In the Luiselle's first pitch to Jamison was tight, but not close enough to be considered a knockdown pitch. Jamison grabbed the bat and headed towards the mound.

When the big right fielder was three or four feet away, Loiselle threw the ball at him, missing Jamison, but causing him to drop the bat and 1'all to the ground. By this time both dugouts and rushed onto the field, but no punches were thrown. An unidentified Elmira player grabbed hold of Braves' mentor Bill Steinecke but soon let go. Play resumed and Loiselle proceeded to strike out Jamison. Another odd feature is that strikeouts accounted for half of the evening's putouts.

Two Elmira hurlers whiffed 16 Braves, and Loiselle and Cosgrove struckout 11 Pioneers for an evening total of 27. The Braves failed to hit a ball out of the infield with the exception of their base hits. Wellsville's outfielders had only three chances, all of them coming in the final three frames. Elmira won it on the pitching of Jack Morris and Marcel Guilbault. Morris worked the first six innings to gain his sixth win against five setbacks.

He walked two and fanned nine, and dropped his earned run average to 1.84. Guilbault relieved in the seventh with one run in and men on first and second. He fanned Wayne Jinske, and Tom Stock was picked off first on a disputed play for the second out. Steve McClintock rolled; out to second to end the inning. In the eighth and ninth Guilbault struck out the side, allowing only a lead-off round tripper in the ninth to Vin Ferguson.

The Braves threatened in the fourth when they had runners at and third with two down. Morris lanned Stock to end lh bid. Elmira scored three runs in the first stanza on five hils. Jamison led off with a homer, and consecu- Uve singles by Cal Shears, Larry Baughman, and Bill Tomaselli produced the second run. Ernie DeLaOsa's Iwo bloop double lo left center plated the final run of the frame.

The winners moved ahead 5-1 in the when Bill Tomaselli was safe on a fielder's choice and rode hc-me on Hank Allen's llth round tripper of the year. Wellsville tallied once in the seventh when Bill Robinson opened with a single and raced to second on Jamison's bobble. James beat out an infield hit to- short, sending Hot-by to third, and Stock's single to left center drove in tho run. In lhe ninth Ferguson hit tin- first pitch over the left center field wall for a home run. Tonight the Braves host Olean in a single contest Jim Flynn (G-4i will hurl lor the local club.

This evening has been set aside as the annual airplane chop night. A local pilot will make three passes over lhe field about 7:15 p.m. and release three balls each time. Any Wellsville or Olean player catching a ball will receive $5 per catch.
