The Rev. Merle Hawbecker will occupy the pulpit during his absence. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Guenzler will begin housekeeping on the Fred Ouenzler farm in Freedom township vacated by the Glenn Edwards family.

Mrs. Peter Sorensen was hostess to the Lutheran Ladles' guild Wednesday afternoon. Ray Snyder, of Forreston, former Lanark resident, was called to Chambersburg, by the death of his father, George Snyder. Mr. and Mrs.

Russell Grimes are both patients in the Lena hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Guenzler and son, of St. Louis, were recent guests of Lanark relatives and friends.

Lena Phidian Art- Club To Hold Meeting Next Monday Evening Lena, 111., March Philian Art club will meet at the Community high school Monday evening, March 8, at 7:45 o'clock. Miss Caroline Pleper will have charge of the musical part of the program. "Piazza Personalities," will be presented by Miss Marjorie E. Bitting, of Freeport. Hostess for the meeting will be Mrs.

A. E. Gishwiller and Miss Veneta Babcock. The local chapter of the Red Cross will hold a meeting at the school house Tuesday evening, March 9, at 8 o'clock. An election of officers will be held, and a large attendance of the members Is desired.

The American Legion auxiliary will hold a monthly meeting In the new hall In the Sprague building, Wednesday evening, March 10, at 8 o'clock. The Old Youth Fellowship class of the Church of the Brethren held a party last evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Stabenow. The petition, signed by fifty Elizabeth voters, asks that a special levy of two mills be authorized in th.fi townshi.) tnxes for librarty purposes. Elizabeth's library has been partially supported by WPA funds since its establishment a few years apo but that support was withdrawn in January.

The library has been continued with gratis assistance since that date until it can be determined if the voters wish the library to be continued. Under the township plan every person in Elizabeth township would have the right to borrow books from the library at all times without charge. The cost in taxes would be relatively small, it has been pointed out by those who are sponsoring the plan. Many Income Tax Returns Deputy Collector of Tnternal Revenue Carl B. Schoenhard, of Galena, has been in Elizabeth this week assisting income tax payers with their returns.

His office has been busy each day scores of returns have been tiled with what is said to be the largest collection of taxes in the income tax history here.
