Senator Lucas of Illinois, who becomes majority leader next Thursday, told a reporter that a working schedule for the lawmaking program probably will be drawn up Monday at the weekly White House conference with President Truman. Pressing Matters Lucas laid the administration regards rent controls and extension of import and export controls as pressing matters. Senator Hill (D-Ala) predicted the Senate Labor Committee will approve next Tuesday a Senate bill under which the government would distribute about $270,000,000 to the states to raise educational standards. Hill said the committee had agreed that no new hearings are needed. Thus it may be the first major bill to clear committee action and reach the Senate calendar.

Strong GOP Aid Senator Taft of Ohio, chairman of the GOP policy committee, told reporters he expects strong Republican support for the measure. It passed the senate last session, but not the house. As soon as the house sets up its committees officially next week, the Democratic leaders are expecting to start pushing for speedy action on revision of the Taft-Hartley labor act. Hill indicated he will support the stand of Chairman Thomas (D-Utah) of the Senate Labor Committee for a "single package" labor bill, wrapping up changes in the Wagner Act, as well as repealing the Taft-Hartley act. Taft said Republicans will demand hearings.

Republican Stand Senator Sparkman (D Ala) said a banking subcommittee which he heads will hold hearings China Nationalists Must Yield Or Flee; Reds Take Tientsin duct the services. In 111 Health Bollaek who had been in ill health for some time, was owner of the Bollack's Department Store, one of the oldest mercantile establishments in the Valley. Bollaek was born March 19, 1880 and was the son of Henry Bollaek, an immigrant from Europen. The family built a one-room store in 1878 which was located opposite the old city market house on 12th street. In 1910 Mrs.

Pauline Bollaek and her son, Joe, erected the building which still stands at 12th and E. Elizabeth. Mrs. Bollaek died in 1935. Mr.

Bollaek was a graduate of the Brownsville high school and attended business college in New Orleans, before returning" to make his home here. He was a charter member of the Rotary Club here and belonged to the Masonic order. Bollaek is survived by his sister, Mrs. A. Wayne Wood, and several cousins in California and Texas.

(See BOLLACK, Page 2) on the rent control bill. Present controls expire March 31. Sparkman favors a 15-month extension. Some Republicans, led by Senator Cain of Washington, want only a year's extension. Chairman Maybank (D-SC) said the full banking committee has marked rent controls for first action, but will begin work quickly on a new housing bill carrying low-cost dwellings and alum clearance provisions.

The possibility of a Democratic- Republican agreement on terms of a new minimum wage bill heightened the likelihood of action on such a measure. Taft said he is willing to support a move to raise the present 40 cents an hour minimum to 75. He added, however, that some changes may have to be made in the lists of those exempted. Hill said he thinks the labor committee may be able to work these out.
