Buffs Jo Play Alamo Wins I Consolation At Dallas Monday. January 23. 1967 Amarillo Globe-Times By WAGGONER Our CANYON West Texas State, shell-shocked last Friday by an Oklahoma City University blitz which produced a 128-103 loss for the Buffaloes, meets an entirely different type foe tonight at Buffalo Field House in defense-minded New State at p.m. The Chiefs of Oklahoma City were the sixth leading offensive team in the country entering the game and guard Gary Gray was the sixth leading scorer. Gray hil 55 in the massacre which saw the Buffs hit their high of the year in 103 points, but also a high in turnovers with 29.

Coach Jimmy Viramontes of West Texas hopes the outcome of tonight's game is not like the OCU game in the opposite direction. New Mexico State is the nation's llth leading defensive team in the land. The Ag- gies are allowing only 61.6 points per game, but scoring only 62.6 themselves. West Texas, a similar team to both Texas Tech and NMS in styles, will be looking for its second win of the year against nine losses. NMS comes in with a fine S-7 record.

Texas Tech whipped the Ag- gies Saturday night at Lubbock in a thriller when the Raiders held off the Aggies near the end of a 6360 victory. WT and Tech are alike in that each team, due mostly to the ability of the players, has to work hard to set the good shots takes only those kind. Tech, for instance, took only 36 shots against New Mexico State, a new post-war low for Tech, and hit on 20 of them. They beat NMS at the charity line, 23 of 27 to only 12 of 17 for the Ag- gies. Three Aggies fouled out, getting 15 of NMS' 18 fouls.
