JUNE 2, ALTON EVENING PAGEtHREK Uses Groundhog Bounty To Pay For Dog's Inoculation JERSEYVILLE George Scott, filhe-yeaf-old son of Mr. and Mrs, Charles Scott of Otter Creek Township, came to Jerseyville Wednesday afternoon to claim bounty on 20 ground hog scalps which he and his. dog had caught. The boy delivered his bale of scalps to County Clerk Thomas Lock ahd received a check for $5 as bounty. "What do you intend doing with so much money?" Queried Lock.

The boy pocketed the check after carefully inspecting it and then explained his intentions. "It's this way," fie said. "They got a hew dog law In this state that says your dog must be Vaccinated by June 1 or you can gel arrested, and they can pick your dog up and do away with him. They can fine you $25 to $300. Dog Unearths Dynamite Stick Near Delhi JERSEYVILLE The dog at the farm of Fred Miller near Delhi will never know how close he was to being blown off the map. Early this week the dog which has the habit of doing a lot of digging about the premises unearthed what he must have believed to be a bone. He chewed away about txvo Inches of one ond of the 15 inch cylinder and then decided to carry It to the farm house Vicinity. When 'Miller noticed the activities of the dog, he took one look at the object in the animal's possession and drew a hurried breath. The cylindrical object was a stick of dynamite.

Miller retrieved the explosive from the canine and brought it to the office of Sheriff Herman Kirchner. A number of thefts of dynamite have occurred during the past two years in Jersey county and Miller surmised that this stick could have been some of the loot and had been cached In the earth at his farm by parties unknown. Sheriff Kirchner reported Tuesday afternoon that thus far they have been. unable to trace the source of the explosive. Son Born To Oration Couple JERSEYVILLE Mr.
