Trekkers will meet heroes such as George "Sulu" Takel, James Scotty" Doohan, Walter "Chekov" Koenig and from the television series "Star Trek: The Next Generation," "John deLancie. The two day gathering in the Sands second floor ballroom features workshops with show writers and an artist from the Star Trek comic book series, autograph sessions, memorabilia sales, a party with the stars and more. Three employees of the Cumberland County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) proved that dogs and cats are not their only concern. Despite their inexperience, they rushed to the aid of a local farmer whose cow was about to give birth. The Rosenhayn farmer, desperate for help with a cow who was having a difficult labor, call the shelter after trying to contact area veterinarians. Employees Diane Starn, Lori Connelly and Doreen Layton answered.

Starn contacted a veterinarian who gave her some basic instructions on what to do, but by the time they got to the farm, the farmer had found a friend who knew something about delivering a calf. Shelter workers arrived in time to wipe down the newborn and take it to its mother for its first feeding. Reminder: The SPCA sponsored dog obedience courses begin Feb. 1 at the Upper SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS: students wishing to apply for Monmouth College's two top scholarship awards are urged to do so immediately. The application deadline is Feb.

1 for both Trustee Scholarships, covering full tuition and fees, and Faculty Scholarships, covering half tuition. Both scholarships are renewable for up to four years for full-time students who maintain satisfactory academic standing. Freshman applicants for the Trustee grants should have SAT scores totaling a minimum of 1,100, and be in the top 10 percent of their graduating class. Transfer applicants must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 based on 30 completed academic credits. Applicants for the Faculty grants are required to have a minimum total SAT scores of 1,000 and rank in the top 20 percent of their graduating class.

Additional information can be obtained from the college admissions office, Deerfield Fire House on Rt 77. Three levels of training are offered: basic, intermediate, and puppy kindergarten. The fee is $45 for six sessions. There is a maximum enrollment of 15 dogs per class. Proof of current vaccinations must be shown at the first session.

to noon. The shelter is located at Sherman Avenue and Orchard Road in Vineland. BUS TRIPS SUMMER WORXSHOP: The Princeton Ballet School will hold an audition for its Summer Workshop '92 on Feb. 8, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Philadanco, 9 N.

Preston Philadelphia. The audition will take the form of a ballet class taught by Mary Pat Robertson, the school's administrative director and director of Teamwork Dance. There is a $7 class fee. GLOUCESTER COUNTY The Gloucester County College Alumni Association is taking a trip to Nassau in the Bahamas, Feb. 7-10.
