But he hears about it via a headset. And everything that happens depends on him. At 26, he is probably the youngest conductor for a major show in the country. His sister is a concert pianist and his grandfather is a bassist. Lavdanski first studied violin, then clarinet and piano and finally, accordion.

Starting Spencer i Sidney i Katharine NEW YORK (AP) The British Royal Ballet opened its season at the Metropolitan Opera House with Rudolf Nureyev and Dame Margot Fonteyn dancing "Romeo and Juliet." Dame Margot was the sun around which the whole wonderful ballet revolved. Dame Margot, who is 48, seems not to age. Her dancing, which manages to include a character portrayal of Juliet, has the sweet delicacy of a spring breeze across a meadow. Her Juliet changes from a shy, coy girl to a shy bride who is also decisive about her love. But one thing Dame Margot always is young, and with it incredibly lovely.

Nureyev's a i has changed; it is he, now 30, whose dancing has gotten older. He once flashed across the stage like a meteor In Tuesday's opening he did the spectacular feats of jumping high and leaping far. But he was dancing with discipline and an over-all sense of maturity rather than flamboyance. His leg positions were more pure. This gives greater pleasure to a lover of the classical dance, but it evoked fewer thrilled oohs and ahs from the audience.

This "Romeo and Juliet" is set to music by Serge Pro-kofieff. Kenneth MacMillan's choreography is far more satisfactory, both from the dance and drama standpoints, than any other "Romeos" danced in New York in recent years.
