Now there are not many people who are able to take large blocks of stock for the reason they must pay cash for it and not in monthly or yearly assessments at Is usually done. To obviate this trouble Colonel Brewster suggests that we so arrange it that subscribers will pay only the Interest on the amount they subscribe. For example suppose you take stock to the amount of 1000. Instead of forking over the whole sum at once you will simply pay the first years interest on it. The next year you will pay the interest again.

and so on every year. This plan will be ad. Yntageous to the shareholders and will accomplish precisely the same result that Troaldbehad by the scheme first proposed. It is according to the ablest financiers of the city perfectly feasible and sensible. There will be no trouble about it.

When the board trustees of the home meets in my office next Thursday week this project will be presented. Such members of the board as I have Conferred with concur with me fully In endorsing the plan and they will aid in pushing our project through. Our plan will be comprehensive one and so brood that anybody in the state of Georgia who wants to be- come a stockholder will be given that privilege. Already assurances of operation have come from various parts of the state and the people of Atlanta are enthusiastic over it. They will go into the enterprise earnestlyand Will push it forward to a splendid success.

Colonel Brewsters plan was warmly endorsed by everybody who knew of it yesterday. There were several gentlemen in Judge Calhoun's office when Colonel Brewster made his suuestionand all opposed it heartily. It Will taken as a happy solution of the matter nd it highly probable that the trustees hen they meet will endorse It. The Trustees Called. ATLANTA Os.

Word has been sent to the railway mail department here announcing the completion of the track to that place. The mail that left Atlanta on Wednesday Thursday Friday of last week went direct to Gordon. seventeen miles from Mllledgeville. It remained there until Saturday morning. when a hack did the service making the journey in several hours over a country road.

Friday the Georgia road was completed to Haddocks and Saturday afternoon the information given that all letters sent this week would go direct to Mllledgevllle. This is the only one of the towns affected however which has recovered from the effect of the washouts. Washington Sparta and Warrenton obtain their mall by some ucusal route or method. klettsr to Washington is forwarded to Barnett thence to Hillmau and across by convey- once to Washington. The Member Explain the Matter. The Atlanta lodge of Elks gan moving rom the Vonable building yesterday. The work had hardly been started when a distress warrant was served and a lot of fur- niture attached. That Will a peculiar predicament for the club but the bailiff held on to a list like this Ono dresser one sideboard four chairs two rockers two tables. two center tables and a lot carpeting.

It was elegant all of the furniture hand- tome and stylish and the pretty carpets of the very best quality. They must have made the clubrooms pretty and comfortable. but the relentless bailiff had them. It was because of a warrant sworn out by Venable Bras. Collins to secure rent to the mount of 5161 which they claimed Will due' he club was moving out changing its quarters to Peachtree street andas the firm thought should have the rent the furniture was attached.

But the firm only wanted to be sure that the matter was properly settled. and the stuff attached was returned to the club. It was earned into the new quarters and all is quiet- for a while. A. receipt was given for the furniture and only to be in possession of the society until le money claimed due for rent is paid.

or the matter settled one way or the other. That is Vonable Bros. Collins's claim ispro- flounced right the amount will be paid or the furniture given up. Of course the money will be forthcoming as the club is a prominent and popular one provided that the claim is sus- tamed. The presiding officer of the club Mr.

Tom Cobb Jackson is out of the city but here's what several members seen state about the matter. It all hinges on the elevator. The rooms are situated at the top of the building. six stories high and its a long climb the top. Without an elevator accompani.

ment to get up or down is hard work and the thought of such a trip is calculated to produce violent attack of that tired feeling. This the members claim was discussed when arrangements were being made for the rent oLthe rooms. Of course the elevator was kept going during the day but lodge meetings are held at' night and the rooms era only used to any extent at night. Some- mes lodge meetings continue till midnight nd say the members this is the hour they thought should mark the close of the elevating season. 1 hey say they mentioned this and an agreement Will made to run the elevator until 12 o'clock and on this condition the rooms were rented.

They then went to the expense of tting up the rooms and doing much ma permanent way to add to the comfort and beauty the apartments. Then they commenced meeting but they had to walk to their rooms if they arrived after 8 o'clock at night. It was tiresome and complaint was made. It did not succeed in starting the machinery and the fatigue increased. The complaint increased in propor- on but it didn't keep them front climbing stairways.

Thus. they say. the con tract was broken and to climb up and down the stairs- was more than they could stand. Hence to get comfort nd benefit from their club they had to get another place. They lose money because of the breaking of le agreement and hence claim that they should not pay the 8165 called lot.

That's the way it stands a misunderstand- ng or difference of opinion which will probably go into the courts before settled. A RECEIVElt APPOINTED Take Charge of Austin Boylstoni Lumber Bunlnegs. Special. There was a tragedy down in Jesup the other ay that would do credit to a story from leadville or any other wild western town in ts Infancy. A tough character invaded the town the other day. He was in the humor to have a little fun at the expense of other people and at the same time if possible wipe out some old grudges. HE MET THE MAYOR.

He had not been in the town long before the opportunity to gratify both desires presented self. He was passing near the railroad depot when he saw the mayor approaching. He had had trouble with that official in the past and bated him worse than ho hated any other man living. Without any preliminaries he walked toward the mayor. and when within a few yards of him threw up his rifle and opened lire.

The mayor had seen him advancing and felt that trouble was brewing. As the negro raised his title the mayor drew his pistol. Both probably tired at the same time. The negros bullet went wild. The mayors bullet Will.

better aimed. It planted itself in the negros body and he toppled over. He still retained a clutch on his rifle and though mortally wounded roads desperate efforts to get a bead on the mayor and fire again. IT WAS KILL 0 BE KILLED. It Will a case of kill or be killed.

The mayor is very much opposed to taking life but at the same time he has strong objections to being perforated with lead. He accordingly closed in on the woundedrnegro. Just as the man was about to pull the trigger the mayor threw his rifle aside whipped out a knife and a second there was another negro who had died with his shoes on. One cut did the work. The jugular was severed and all danger from one despetat echaracter at least was at an end.

THE BEAR WAS TUBER Bruin Takes Quiet Possession of a Georgia Town. SYLVANIA Ga. August 31. Special. Our little town was thrown into a great state of ex.

citemeut today by the appearance of a large bear on the streets. While it Is well known that a great many of these animals infest the Savannah river swamp in this county yet it ias been along time since one of them has wen so bold as to come out from his lair In the broad daylight and especially up into our usy bustling little town. This bear was seen some gentlemen of Sylvania the evening before in Brier creek swamp and it is sup- sed he made his way from there during the night to Sylvania. He did not appear at an ferocious and none of our citizens attempted to shoot him or do him any harm. It was argued that if wounded and not killed he might possibly get on the warpath and do terrible destruction and therefore old bruin trod the streets unmolested.

An excited crowd gath- eren and viewed him from afar. He climbed up one of the large beautiful oaks on Main street and remained there contentedly prob ably wrapped in wonder and admiration at Sylvanias rapid growth the small boys began to pelt him with sticks and stones. He then made a rapid descent and the aforementioned small boys scattered. He lingered around quite awhile after that and viewed all the points of interest seeming especially interested in the new hotel site and at last trotted leisurely off in the direction 01 the Ozeecnee river swamp. BURIAL OF BAYARD TURNER A Day of Gloom and Sorrow In Cedartown.

CEDARTOWN Ga. August 31. Special Gloom sad and dark has rested on every home in Cedartown since the shocking news of the drowning of Bayard Turner out at Parr's pond near Atlanta reached here on Saturday evening. an account of which was given in Sundays CONSTITUTION. The remains accompanied by friends of the family reached here from Atlanta on the noon train and were immediately taken to the home of his father Captain W.

It Will perhaps the largest crowd that ever attended a funeral in Cedartown. The services were conducted by Dr. Lee aided by Revs. H. J.

Ellis Methodist J. E. Jones Presbyterian and C. K. Henderson Baptist.

Dr. Lees sermon was one of more than ordinary strength and beauty lofty elevating and consoling in its sentiments. The short remarks of all the other preachers were touching and appropriate. The immense crowd and masses of beautiful flowers laid on the casket by loving hands told how fondly the bright beautiful boy was loved by the people who knew him. SIARSHALLVILLES COLT SHOW.

August 31. SpedaL There is a grave near Eulaton which Is still surrounded by mystery-a a grave that may or may not. hide a great crime. The News learns that recent investigations of the circumstances surrounding the mysterious discovery of. a deserted mound in the forests beyond Eulaton while of not a character sufficient to throw any clear light will have a tendency to move the matter away.

The shadowy wood andlu strange' sepulcher are still the absorbing topics of conversation la the neighborhood. Three persons are known to he missing from that vicinity and events that transpired Immo. diately prior to their disappearance snake not only possible but probable that the vacant grave is closely connected with one of them Like many cases of a similar nature at woman figures as a prominent factor and this particular female is one of the trio whose whereabouts is now the subject of public concern. Among the woodchoppers that have been engaged within a few miles of Eulaton during the summer were a couple of young fellows. one of whom was called Blind Tom and the other just plain.

simple Sam It seems that in the abundance of names among these men they knew each other only by nick names. Tom it may be well enough to explain was not a man of total blindness like Bethoven or Saul of Tarsus upon one occasion but one optic was as good and bright as ever. Well a girl named Jones came over from Arbacoochee a few weeks ago and brought with her all the charms of healthy tints of form that life in the rough hills of Cleburne create. Sam and Tom became rivals for the hand of Miss Jones. This rivalry grew into jealousy.

and then ripened into hatred. A few days before finding the mysterious mound this love affair culminated into a savage quarrel in which Tom came out at the small end of the horn. He swore that he would have revenge. and two mornings later Tom Sam and the girl were all missing and nothing has since been heard of them a fact that. very naturally and quite reasonably leaves the in ference that a murder was committed on the night preceding the disappearance especially as Tom was frequently heard to threaten Sam during the day succeeding the quarrel.

Inquiry among choppers and others in the vicinity shows that Sam's other name was Harper and that he was from Mississippi. The Tom of the affair was Thomas Porter and ho hails from Trion Factory Ga. The girl has not been seen about her home- at Arba. couches since the disappearance of the three parties from near Eulaton. SIfAWS LITTLE STORY.
