SECURITY Phone 2641 FINANCE COMPANY 1 Cant Use Mines For Shelters Suggestion Heard Here is Declared Impracticable By Former Hazletonian. The suggestion heard in Hazleton that the mines be used for shelters if air raids occur was declared impracticable by Harry W. Montz, Wilkes-Barre mining engineer who is a former Hazletonian. This shelter plan was brought up at a meeting of the County Defense Council at the county seat and Montz pointed out that large numbers of persons couldn't be taken into the mines speedily and that damage to the enginehouse, shaft house, tipple.

head house or other hoisting points would make it impossible to get persons from the mines or lower them into the workings. Following a discussion, in which it was pointed out there are few colliery buildings substantial enough to withstand bombing, the suggested use of mines was laid aside as impracticable. County Commissioner Herman Kersteen proposed a survey of population centers, with the thought of making air shelter areas as small as possible so large groups would not congregate in times of raid. The commissioner spoke of diffculty in obtaining sandbags when needed and urged that provisions be CoME. 1941 BY NEA SERVICE.

fa. No. 94 Rules Poultry May Be Sold In Package Form Secretary of Internal Affairs, William S. Livengood, announced today that the attorney general has advised him it is lawful to sell poultry wrapped in cellophane, or in package form, each package being marked with the net weight, at a certain or fixed price per package by numerical count. This reverses a previous opinion of March 25, 1935, that poultry dressed or undressed must be sold by weight only.

Copies of this opinion have been prepared for distribution by the Department of Internal Affairs and will be mailed to all interested agencies. Any other persons, firms, or corporations desiring a copy of this new ruling may obtain them upon written request.
