An enthusiastic meeting of the Savannah Volunteer Wt vu held last night. The following wu unanimously adopted Resolved That the Savannah Volunteer Qnards hue received from the hand of the sT governor of Georgia on the l50th anniversary of the founding of the state the 4 flag of the state established by law with a 4 deep sensibility and thorough appreciation of the honor conferred. That they respectfully present to the governor their past career and devotion to the interests of Georgia as the only guarantee in their power that it is not entrusted to unworthy hands that although our list of honorary members la usually- reserved for special distinction of members of the corps only who have rendered actual swnce to the corps an exception will be now made. and that lion Alexander Ste. phens governor of Georgia and commander in chief.

be now elected by acclamation an honorary member of the corps and that the corps ruduJ him to accept the election. and allow toe honor of calling his name at. each as. semblage of the corps upon the roll of the company to which he shall be assigned as the present and proper representative of the ma' jesty and sovereignty of this rose of states our Georgian commonwealth. citizens of Savannah had very great pieaure in offering on the 12th of February such simple hospitality as the circumstances Of the occasion permitted. to the delegation of citizens from Maryland sent by the gover- I nor of Maryland to represent the state of Maryland at the sesqui centennial celebration Of the settlement of Georgia. That the Savannah Volunteer Guards while probably conscious that if ever they are to carry the flag of Georgia. they cannot be altogether unworthy to bear that of one of Georgia's sis tar esteem it as a special privilege and distinguished honor to have been allowed by that delegation from Maryland to whom It had been instructed by their governor to carry toe flag of Maryland along with the flag Of Georgia. their own battalion color in their place in the co umn of volunteets of Georgia Florida iad South Carolina 10 participated in that celebration the union of the two liege symbolizing the uBion of the two states in the glories and misfortunes of the common past and hopes of common future.

Last night Mr. Kdmondson handed to the ordinary his resignation of the office together with a letter front the governor saying that the resignation had been accepted to take ef. feet at that hour. It will be remembered that George Clements contested Edrnondsons election. on the ground that he had not been country two years.

Evidence was warded to the governor who. Without notice to the parties or attorn. ye decided the case in Edruondsons favor and forwarded his commission. Thu Clements's at torneys claim. was illegal but advised him to turn over the office to Ldmondson and then bring a quo warranto.

This was done and the ease was set for a hearing before Judge Esiea to-day. EdniordsoQ has forestalled this proceeding by resigning. The ordinary will probably appoint Mr. Clements to act until an elee- ton can be held. Clements will again be a can lidate as will Edruondson also in all probability.

Perhaps others may enter the list. In Special to The Constitution Cowuas Ga. February 17 Last night Mrs. W. T. Shipley thought she saw a man peeping irxat her window.

She got a pistol raised toe window and fired. Her litte eon got his shot gun and was searching the yard for the man when Mr. John Osborn who lives near hearing the report of the pistol went over to see what was the matter. MrsShip ley told him and he commenced a search also. The boy with the gun coming upon Mr.

Osborn and taking him to be the man he was looking for. fired away the shot taking effect in and about the knee joint. A physician was summoned at once but could not extract the shoe on account of its being in the joint. He was doing very well at last account put it may cause him a stiff leg. ALBANY'S INDUSTRIES A.

Eeal estate is rapidly advancing in value and all the coliditions exist here to attract capital from abroad. A few handsome brick tom have already been erected.

and the rood work thus begun will be carried on to completion until Flticastte. its fashion. able and main business street will be crowded with capacious business houses and elegant private real- deuces. By the way I do hope the citizens of Brunswick wilt not be so carried away with the spirit of modem progress and change as to alter the names of their streets such as Flucastle Gloater and others of English origin and of historic interest. In memory of the gallant and great General Ogle- thorpelhope they will retain these names.

Asa health resort in winter in my judgment this place is surpassed by none other. Thia opinion is Sounded not on other peoples' declarations hut upon my own experience. I visited this place ex pectlng to pass four months here and in Florida seeking a restoration of health. JL OXTOBD CLASS EEL Oxioan February 6 Yesterday the so utor class planted their tree. This was the institution of this ceremony at Emory and it was interesting as the occasion demanded. Promptly at half pest two4the faculty and members of the senior class as well as the stu denteand visitors assembled on the campus in front of Saucy hall The exercises were opened by a speech from the dux of the class W. Hill. This was followed by a poem from the class poet B.

Macwell which was well received. Then a history of the class' by the class historian B. Glover The history was entertaining and instruct tee speaking well for the class and reflecting much credit upon the historian. who is himself It. prom- Icing member.

Next was a poem read by tL class prophet. T. Huzza. Then came the ceremony of planting the tree. The tree was placed in position and the members of the faculty in turn threw in a shoveUul of dirt Thou the officers and members of the clue in order.

Dr. A Haygood president of the college then delivered a short address. The services closed with the benediction. The senior class hue permanently organized with officers as foil W8 Dux W. P.
