The Greatest Daily Circulation In The Heart Of America's Future WEATH VOLUME 54, NUMBER 28 GRAND COUNTY, TEXAS pair through tonigh fODAY FEBRUARY 1, 1963 BOURSE ANYONE? Sounds like a gourmet special and tf you were a fancier of fine foods you'd probably answer "I'll try It." However looking up the word bourse In the dictionary I find It Is a French word derived by the Paris Board of Exchange and means the buying of, barter, and exchange of gold and precious metals. Bourse Is very familiar to thousands of numismatics the world over. Now what is a 'Numismatic." Again to the dictionary to find it is a term used for collectors of old coins, tokens, bar gold or silver. Tne Grand Prairie Coin Club held its first Bourse last spring with 16 numismatics showing their wares. Another Bourse is planned for March 17 at the Legion Hall.

Already 22 have reserved space and many more coin enthusiasts are expected to make the 2nd Annual Bourse the best ever. Wanting to learn more about "Bourses" a word I've had misprinted because typesetters think I don't know how to spell Waldo and I went to see D.B.Nichols past president of the Coin Club, and one of the mos active numismatics in GP. Although Nichols operates a successful battery shop his traffic in coins is even better. One of his most unusual or rather most talked of coins Is one coined In about 400 A.D. To a layman like me it has the same face as a 1921 American dollar, but to a numismatic is something different.

One of the most Interesting coins In Nichol's vast collection is the "Piece of 8" or "Pillar dollar" unequalled by any other coin in romantic fiction. This time honored piece was the chief coin of the American colonists and the forerunner of our own silver dpllar and Its fractional divisions. From the Piece of 8 came the terms, 2 bits, 4 bits, 6 bits, dollar. When a man bought an item costing half of a piece of 8, the coin was struck in two, making 2 pieces- and so on down the line. At the same time whenever the coin passed through the hands of the Chinese merchant he affixed thereon, in small characters, his mark authenticating its value.

New Hampshire was the first of the states to consider the subject of coinage and William Moulton was empowered to make a limited quantity of coins of pure copper In March 1776. Today a 1776 New Hampshire halfpenny Is worth $1,000. Among Waldo's collection Is an almost complete set of Morgan silver dollars. This coin was last minted In 1921 and what makes It valuable or interesting is the fact that some coins have eagles with only seven tall feathers. Wondering why Nichols became Interested In collecting coins we asked and he answered us with a question, "Doyou have a hobby? Well, so do I.

Where others collect stamps, rocks, shells, etc. I collect coins." Well, I've got a date on March 17 at the Legion Hall to attend a bourse maybe some of that money will rub off. Anyway. I'll never be so close to so much money again. Study Slated on Buildup in Cuba ROYALTY of the 12 senior students at Grand Prairie High elected as candidates for "Mr.
