Kicked lone NEW BERN, N.C. UP) -On the highway between New Bern and Morehead City there is a gadget point: the fight between the parties is developing far faster than it did in the last presidential election. Four years ago, the early political skirmish was pretty much confined to candidates jousting among themselves for their party's these contests didn't develop to any great degree until the late winter and early spring of 1952. Once the candidates were Eisenhower by the Republicans anc Adlai Stevenson by the Democrats the parties turned their guns full force against each other. But now both parties are starting early to establish issues, and their national headquarters are pushing programs to organize precinct workers who will get out the vote.

Here's A Kroger Economy Biy Delicious Refreshing Kroger Frozen Lemonade 6 6-Oz. Cons In Handy Carry Co- 12-Oz. Cans ea. 27c By SAM DAWSON NEW YORK WI-The happiest thing about the threat of inflation popping out like measles in spots all over the that this time so many are aware of it before it gets out of hand. The threat was very much on the minds of the financial leaders in Istanbul for the meeting of the boards of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.

Almost everyone is talking about the danger of a new inflation, hanging on the coattails of pros perity and threatening to trip it up. And at least 11 nations have already done something about it. Creeping advances of prices, with buying sprees in some lands by consumers with pockets filled by teadily increasing wages, and the problems of a public seemingly eager to live beyond its means- all hold the warning that a new down-grading of the purchasing power of your money- could be in the making, if not watched. Financial leaders at the Istanbul meetings stressed that a serious inflation could quickly wipe out the progress made in recent years in Western Europe. The Federal Reserve Bank ol tew York notes that since the firs! of the year the central banks of 1( nations, in addition to the Unite: States, have raised their discounl rates.

This is a classic financial measure for tightening the supply of money, putting a brake on rea or incipient inflation. The other nations did it for two lasic reasons, the bank notes Some, like Britain, Sweden ant Turkey, were aiming at "counter ng inflationary strains and at endant balance-of-payments diffi culties." Others, like Belgium Canada and West Germany are mainly warning "commercia banks and business to show restraint in their lending and spend ing activities." The United States falls into this alter group. Like the other, it has no acute inflationary pressures sc Far and the stability of the dolla In foreign exchange is still AAA Uncle Sam, noting the many ad vances in the price of Industrie goods and the growth of consume debts, is just playing it careful. Countries, in addition to those named, who have joined in this at tempt to halt incipient inflation prevent its starting are Norway Austria, New Zealand and Japan The New York bank regards Japan's bike in the discount rate as being primarily getting it in line with commercia banking and putting it in positioi to use the discount rate as a anti-inflationary tool when needec Bankers here note two interest ing things about this monetary con trol move among the Western nations. First, the 11 appear to hav adopted a uniform policy of money and credit restraint without an; dramatic conferences of a politica nature, such as was the custom 30 years ago.

Second, that the inflation threa springs out of prosperity. In mos of these nations business is unusually good that it is causing some concern. The fear is tha good times might lead to excesses If that happens, and real infla tion gets rolling, the present moves would be insufficient to halt il many observers point out. And if, on the other hand, ther should be a break in the presen upgrade spurt of business, opinions could change fast The present fear of a little too ranch inflation more prevalent abroad than here although even in the United State prices are rising could chang immediately to fear of recession The pressure would build up fast then for easier credit, cheaper money, and governmental pump- priming. It's a neat balancing trick th central banks and monetary offi oiled down a grade near lling 10 Mexicans and others.

His death was the first in the present 84th Congress. Dingell had represented Detroit's 15th District since he was first elected to Congress in 1932. He had entered Walter Reed Friday night for a checkup on a suspected asthmatic condition. A son, James, said his father, apparently died of a Heart attack. He said the congressman's condition had not been considered serious until he took a sudden turn for the worse some three hours before his death.

Elected to Congress 12 consecutive terms, Dingell was the second- ranking Democrat on the tax-writing House Ways'and Means Committee. He also was a member of the Senate-House Committee on Internal Revenue Taxation. Identified as a political liberal, he was a leader of the unsuccessful effort by some House Democrats earlier this year to put across a $20-a-person income tax cut. The vacancy will be filled by a special election. Dingell is survived by his widow, Grace; two sons, John Jr.
