of Social and Cuto (Lvenfo Reunions fr Club Meetings fr Social Events By DONNA PAULSEN Phone 755-1191 Newcomers Club hear tips on outdoor cooking The Harlan Newcomers Club mfet at the community room May 31 with 27 old members, seven new members, and 14 guests present Cleda Danials, the Shelby County Extension Home Economist, presented a program of tipts on outdoor cookery. The president, Mrs Bernard Brenton, announced that newcomer members will be helping at the annual Flight Breakfast, to be held Sunday, June 25. Volunteers are needed for three 90-minute shifts. Anyone wishing to work, selling tickets, greeting people, or helping with registration may call 755-2001 or 755-2371. A picnic for Newcomer members and their families, will be held at Potter's Park, June 11 at 6:30 p.m.

Homemade ice cream and drinks will be furnished. In case of rain, the picnic will be cancelled. The next regular meeting will be held Wednesday evening, Sept. 27, when the new officers will take office, Program chairman, Mrs Roger Bertrand, who left the meeting early Wednesday night, gave birth to a 6 Ib, 9 oz. baby girl at 1:20 Thursday morning.

It was announced that morning coffees will be held at Potters Park, during the summer months. Dates will be announced in the Harlan Newspapers. Paul A. Paulcy, sponsor this month, furnished prizes and refreshments, which were served by hostesses Mmes Bernard Brenton, Bob Ditzel and John McDonough. Prizes were won by Linda Majerus, Mmes Loren Adams, Charles Arnold, Galen Ahrenhokz, Gary Bridger, Derold Davidson, Duane Mortensen, Gail Shellberg, Harry Thomsen, Harry Gearhart, Marvin White, and Dwight Zimmerman.

Marilyn Jans feted at pre-nuptial shower A miscellaneous pre-nuptial shower was held at the Savings and Loan community room Tuesday, May 30, to honor Marilyn Jans. Hostesses were Mrs Harvey Bolte and her daughters Patricia and Barbara. Some 60 guests played bingo and spent the evening socially. The hostesses served lunch. Pre-nuptial shower May 31 honored Marilyn Jans Marilyn Jans was honored at a personal pre-nuptial shower at the home of her sister, Mrs Judy Sisan in Des Moines Wednesday, May 31.

Mrs Donna Gilliam was co-hostess for the evening. The evening was spent playing games and the hostesses served lunch to the 30 guests. Marilyn became the bride of Larry Deal Saturday, June 3, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Harlan. County Democratic Women met May 29 at Panama The Shelby County Democratic Women's Club held their final meeting of the season Monday, May 29, in the Panama school cafeteria.

Mrs Ambrose Muenchrath, Earling, gave a report on the 7th District Northern Conference held in Carroll, May 20, Mrs Walter Andersen, Harlan, was presented a corsage and bon bon dish in appreciation of acting as chairman of a successful membership drive. The Panama Cub Scouts of Pack 42 marched in uniform presenting the flag in a well prepared drill, under ithe direction of den mothers, IMrs Ralph Mickels, Mrs Joe Fahn and Mrs Bob Theulen. Carol Goetz, daughter of Mr and Mrs Bill Goetz, gave a recitation entitled, "Scratch the News Boy's Monday Morninf, 5, COMING EVENTS AT VETERANS BUILDING June 10--Andrew Pokorny, dinner, reception; June 25--American Legion Dance (combo). LINDA NELSON Mr and Mrs Thomas Nelson of Irwin, have announced the engagement of itheir daughter, Linda, to Vernon Brue, son of Mr and Mrs Harold Brue of Defiance. Miss Nelson is a 1967 graduate of the Irwin High School, Her fiance is a 1965 graduate of the Irwin High School and is presently employed at the Shelby County ASC office.

The couple is planning a July 8 wedding at the Irwin Lutheran Happy Flower Girls prepare for flower show, June 10 The Happy Flower Girls Junior Garden Club met Saturday, May 27, at the Methodist fellowship hall with nine girls present. Plans were discussed for the flower show, which will be held June 10. The girls completed itheir program books and also planted dish gardens and fterrariums which they hope to exhibit at the flower show. The next club meeting will be Tuesday, June 6 at 1:30 m. at fellowship hall in the Methodist church.

TO ATTEND BUSINESS COLLEGE EARLING Marie Nowatzke, daughter of Mr and Mrs Ray Nowaitzke, Earling, will attend Nettelson Van Sans College of Business starting June 5 for training as a keypunch operator. She is a spring graduate of Panama-Portsmouth. Dodd-Martin nuptials at Indianapolis recently Announcement has been made of the recent marriage in Indianapolis, of Miss Pamela Aim Dodd of Indianapolis, to Thomas L. Martin, son of Mr and Mrs Ralph L. Martin of Harlan.

Martin is stationed ait Fort Benjamin Harrison and (the couple is living in Indianapolis. MARIBETH ZIMMERMAN ELECTED EARLING An Earling student, Miss Maribeth Zimmerman, was elected to a major office in the College Young Democrats at Briar Cliff College in Sioux City. Miss Zimmerman will serve as parliamentarian for the 1967-68 academic year. A freshman at Briar Cliff she is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Bernard Zimmerman. Pre-nuptial shower honors Dixie Havick Dixie Havick was the guest of honor at a miscellaneous bridal shower given at the home of Mrs Harry Gearhart Sunday afternoon, May 21.

The shower was attended by 15 former classmates and friends of Dixie's. Decorations were in the bride-to-be's chosen colors of pink and white. A pink umbrella adorned the gift table. A buffet luncheon was served from a lace-covered table decorated with pink and white flowers and pink tapers. Carol Christensen, sister of the future bride, poured coffee.

Julie Boeck dipped the punch. Ann Christensen and Julie Boeck assisted Dixie in opening her gifts. Dixie will become the bride of Terry Boeck, June 17, in Harlan. The Life Story of MRS MARVIN BARRATT, 47 Norma Barratt was born 1920, on a farm near Manilla in Shelby County, the daughter of Matilda and Carl Brue.

She has lived her entire life in the Irwin vicinity where she graduated frdm the Irwin High School with the Class of 1937. She was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Irwin and has been a lifetime member of this church. Feb. 27, 1947, she married Marvin Barratt at Irwin.

To this union five sons were born. They are. Steven, Roger, Kevin, Brian and Joel, ill at home. Mrs Barratt died May 28, 1967, at the Myr- tue hospital in Harlan at the age of 47 years, four months and 23 days. Preceding her in death was her father, Carl Brue, in April of 1951.

She is survived by her husband; her sons; her mother, Mrs Matilda Brue of Irwin; her sister, Mildred, now Mrs Larry Greiner of Harlan; and three brothers--Harold Brue of Defiance and LaVern and IMerlene Brue, both of Irwin. Funeral services were held May 31, 1967, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Irwin, with Pastor Donald Bentz officiating. Honorary bearers were Howard Wigg, Merlene Rold, Larry Knudson, Chris Petersen, Gailard Knudson and Alvin Armentrout. Pallbearers were Leslie Brue, Norman Wiig, Gale Barratt, Milford Rold, Kenny Knudson and J.

C. McMahon, Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery at Irwin, la. FOR SALE LETTERING Guide sets on sale at Harlan Tribune. tf The Life Story of MATT SCHRAM, 85 Matt Schram was born Dec. 7, 1881, in Westphalia, the son of Magdalena and Nicholas Schram.

He married Elizabeth kel April 9, 1913, at Earling, la. To this union three children were born. They are Alvin of Defiance, LeRoy of Manilla and Mrs Ivo Gaul of Earling. At time of Mr Schram's death he was a retired farmer residing at Defiance, la. He was affiliated with St.

The children, some wide-eyed, many ap-j prehensive, give the cells a careful scruting, with a special inspection of the jail's only occupant at the time, a 20-year-old youth being held on a larceny charge. Pallbearers were Keith Wessling, Dean Uhl, Eugene Schram, Dennis Jacoby, Robert Jacoby and Richard Rushenberg.
