Fire protection was one of the main topics of discussion at the meeting of the North Raritan Improvement Asso ciation last Friday evening in Oak Tree School." On February 3, 1927, five fire commissioners will fee elected. It was decided to place fire hydrants along the existing water mains and to run an extension of the main into the Valhalla district for the purpose of establishing hydrants in that locality. Prices are to be obtained on small chemical fire-fighting apparatus. Another subject discussed was the formation of that part of the township north of the Metuchen borough line, to include Menlo Park. A letter asking the approximate cost of this project was sent to the township committee.

"The committee's reply stated that such information was not in its hands and would have to come from the Collector, Assessor, Engineer, Treasurer and Attorney, and that it would take from six to eight weeks to obtain. The mission will sweep throughout the country during January and February, the whole season of Epiphany, 1927. The Diocese of New Jersey will be reached early in January at the centers of Elizabeth and Camden. For one week in each of these places mass meetings will be held twice a day and will be addressed by the Crusaders, a bishop and a priest, and, if possible, a layman. The aims of the crusade are two: First, to awaken to more fervent love and active zeal every member of the church and to secure a rededication of life to the cause of the kingdom of Christ.
