CBS wins ratings race for 3rd consecutive week (O (9 Q. CM 00 O) 00 "5 THE RATING for "M-A-S-H" was 19.3. Nielsen says that means in an average minute of the program, 19.3 percent of the nation's television-equipped homes with were tuned to CBS. Audience levels normally decline during the summer, but "M-A-S-H" was the first of the No. 1 shows in the weekly ratings to register less than 20 percent of the potential viewers.

MOST SHOWS broadcast during the week were reruns. A theatrical film in its television debut "Rich Kids" on ABC was the highest rated of the week's new programs, No. 29. A new edition of "Walter Cronkite's Universe" on CBS finished 44th. AN ORIGINAL episode of "Police Squad" on ABC tied for 48th place.

And a hew installment of "Cassie and Company" on NBC was 50th. Here are the week's 10 highest-rated programs: "M-A-S-H," WITH a rating of 19.3 representing 15.8 million homes and "60 Minutes," 18.6 or 15.2 million, both CBS; ''Fantasy Island," 18.5 or 15.1 million, ABC; "Alice" and "The Jeffersons," both CBS, and "Hart to Hart," ABC, all 18 or 14.7 million; "Too Close for Comfort," 17.5 or 14.3 million, ABC; "Hill Street Blues," 17.4 or 14.2 million, NBC; "Three's Company," 17 or 13.9 million, ABC; and "House Calls," 16.9 or 13.8 million, CBS. The next 10 shows: "Trapper John, M.D.," CBS; "Love Boat," ABC; "Gimme a Break," NBC; "WKRP in Cincinnati" and "Lou Grant," both CBS, tie; "One Day at a Time," CBS; "Diff rent Strokes," "Facts of Life" and movie "Rollercoaster," all NBC; and "Archie Bunker's Place," CBS. NBC HAD three of the week's five lowest-rated shows. A "CBS Reports" news special, "A Time to Die," finished 66th.

It was followed by "Code Red," 67th, on ABC. And bringing up the rear were the three NBC shows, "Chicago Story," "Father Murphy" and "Lewis and Clark." NEW YORK (AP) CBS; with five of the week's 10 top-rated shows, including "M-A-S-H" in first place, won the networks' ratings race for the third straight week, according to figures from the A.C. Nielsen Co. It was also the third consecutive week for "M-A-S-H" as the No. 1 show in prime-time.

HOWEVER, THE audience for the CBS comedy was the lowest for any winning program in the last year. CBS' rating for the week ending July 11 was 12.6 to 11.9 for ABC and 10.8 for NBC. The networks say that means in an average minute of prime time during the week, 12.6 percent of the country's homes with TV were watching CBS.
