Sterling women attend conference STERLING (Special) Attending the 12th annual Southeast Nebraska Conference of tlva American Lutheran Church which met on Tuesday at Hope Lutheran Church in Burr, were from St. John Lutheran Ohnrcli of Sterling, Mrs. Alfred Eilers, conference secretary, Mrs. Martin' EMers, Mrs. Wm.

A noon Luncheon was served to the group by the host church. The business meeting was con-'ducted by president Mrs. Allen Beers of Syracuse. New officers elected were President, Mrs. Raymond Gerdes of St.

James Huinboldt, treasurer, Mrs. Martin Eisenhauer of Grace Lutheran of Ccok, and education sec- reuvry, Mrs. Lawrence Witting of Grace Lutheran of Ccok. Speaker at the conference was Miss Joyce Gerdes, a -Japanese Bridge Bmilder Team Member. Alta Stark and Alice McIntosh were hostesses. In the absence of Mrs. Mclntosh, Mrs. Frieda Howe assisted Mrs. Stark.

17 members were present. Mrs. Clayton Ship-man presented the Thought for the Day. She read a "Diving Faith" and fol-'owed with one of own composition, "Be thankful for friendships." Stewart Liberty church hosting speaker LIBERTY Germaine Saucier of Omaha, a Billy Graham crusade convert, will speak at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Liberty Congregational Church.

Fairbury Baptist hosting evangelistic meetings Beatrice Daily Sun. Beatrice, April 21, 1972 Postmaster given special citation FAIRBURY (Special) Rev. Robert Shaw, senior minister of Prairie Baptist Church of Prairie Village, Kan. will conduct a series of evangelistic meetings at the First Baptist Church of Fairbury. Meetings will be conducted each evening from Sunday through Friday at 7:30 p.m.

at the church located at 9th and Streets. Various themes will be em- phasiized during the week. Thursday night has been designated as guest and a.H- church night. All' members of the surrounding churches are invited to participate. On Friday, it will be Old Timer's night, with Walt and George Kettlehut and Elmer Weichel playing and singing old- fashioned gospel songs.

A male quartet will also sing. Those attending are asked to dress in western garb or their working clothes. Rev. Shaw is a graduate of Fremont High School. The public is invited to the meetings.

Any local resident desiring transportation to the church should call the church office at 729-5012 or the John Rempel residence at 729-336. VIRGINIA Postmaster Marvin Andersen of the Virginia Post Office received a special citation and a $50 award Wednesday at the National League of Postmasters in Grand Island. Andersen said he was donating his prize to the Village of Virginia to buy trees for the town park. He said he wanted to show his appreciation to the town for helping move the mail and equipment out of the post office when a nearby filling station exploded last January 19. E.

L. Paulsen, district manager of the U.S. Post Office gave Andersen the award on the recommendation of L. G. Moore, Lincoln Postmaster.

Andersen was cited for his speedy action January 19 when fire threatened the Post Office. Andersen and a large crowd of men, women and children from Virginia cleared all the mail annd equipment from the Post Office. The only 'thing remaining was the pencil sharpener, he said. All the mail was saved and nothing was damaged.
