12-A £lu- Wednesday Morning, August 2, 1978 Patty Hearst Was Injured During Her Kidnapping, Prosecutor Argues OAKLAND, Calif. (UPI) Patricia Hearst suffered bodily injury during her kidnapping by the Sym- bionese Liberation Army in 1974, the state prosecutor declared in a pre-trial argument in prosecution of William and Police On For 3 With Explosives (UPI) Police throughout the nation Tuesday were on the 'look-out' for three persons suspected of possessing 27 pounds of illegal explosives to be used for terrorists activities. Detective Larry Frerkes said that a national alert was issued Monday for the suspects, two men and a woman, after they fled the area during the weekend. "We've issued a national alert for them," Frerkes said. "Authorities across the country are on the lookout." He said the suspects," who lived at a Loveland campground for the past week; were known 19 fellow campers as 1 Jeff and Cathy.

They were believed to be from Brownsville," and were traveling in a 1967-1969 blue Ford pickup with a 7-month old Doberman puppy. Frerkes said a national request also was sent out for any information about missing or stolen black Tovex, which the three were suspected of illegally He said undercover agents had planned to purchase some of 'the explosive during the weekend through an informant; but the trio apparently had left the area. He said, three pounds of the explosive was recovered from an informant," who learned the Tovex probably was stolen from the Brownsville; Frerkes said informants also reported the three; who were suspects in a July 23 holdup at Loveland convenience store," planned to use the gelatin-high exposive for terrorist activities. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation said the explosive had about the same potency as dynamite and often was used underwater. A CBI spokesman said 27 pounds of black Tovex would roughly equal the explosive power of 55 sticks of dynamite.

Frerkes said the man identified as "Spud;" was described as very thin and in his early 20s, with straight dirty blond hair and needle tracks on both arms. He was believed to be from Brownsville," Tex. The second man, Jeff, who was seen wearing a black cowboy hat, was described as very about 5 foot-io; and in his 20s. The woman, Cathy, was described as short and "chubby," the detective said. Ball High Reunion Set The Ball High Class of 1963 will hold its 15-year class reunion Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

A brief on file in the Harris ease Tuesday said SUBSCRIBE I TOD A I 744-3611 I Miss Hearst suffered beatings and confinement, and "milieu control of sufficient intensity to transpose her identity." The Harrises had argued that bodily injury was not involved in the Hearst kidnapping. A conviction of bodily injury would subject them to much heavier possible penalties than simple kidnap. In his brief, Alameda County Deputy District Attorney Alex Selvin said Miss Hearst has identified William Harris as one of three persons who burst into the Berkeley apartment she shared with her fiance. Selvin also referred to "the beating and loss of consciousness sustained by Hearst in the process of her kidnap, her confinement in two small closets for seven weeks." Miss Hearst is now serving a term in federal prison for participating in a Symbionese Liberation Army bank holdup following her kidnap. She contended during her trial that she was under duress by her captors at the time of the crime.

The district attorney also argued against a defense request that the trial be moved because of publicity in the San Fnmcisco Bay Area. It is unlikely that any place could be found in California where "the local population is unfamiliar with the kidnap of Patricia Hearst," Selvin's brief said. The kidnap trial of the Harrises is scheduled for Oct. 12. Miss Hearst is expected to be a key prosecution witness.

The defendants, now serving terms for other crimes while with the SLA, have denounced Miss Hearst and have'asked the judge to order a psychiatric examination of her in an attempt to disqualify her testimony.
