A bright gold bus carrying nearly all the GOP candidates for state office in Texas will stop in Baytown for a rally as part of a tour through this area of the state.

May Seek Traffic Safety Advice The oity's traffic advisory committee is considering calling in a safety expert in connection the ciiy's traffic safely campaign, Councilman Seaborn iTivey said Thursday night. a member of the advisory qounciJ, discussed the traffic safety program in Baytown in a report to the cily council. Police Chief Blair Mann announced Thursday that the police department will begin a city-wide traffic safety campaign.

"General accidents are up 20 10 30 per cent," Cravey said. "The death rate is up alarmingly We've had some terrible accidents recently. tried io think of everything we possibly could that 'might change this trend." He said the council tried to look up to pinpoint causes, but was not able to spot any one particular cause. "The greatest cause seems to be improper driving people ignoring signs, improper turning he said. He said the advisory council plans an educational program and will meet with the citizens traffic council to solicit that group's thinking.

He pointed out that one specific trouble is intersections with shrubs, bushes and 'trees that obscure the drivers' vision. "We need to do somthing aout clearing these intersections," he said. He added that the council may soon propose a revised ordinance on this. He cited one recent accident that was directly caused by the driver not. able to see into the intersection because of shrubs at the corner.

"We're at the point where we doches, Lufkin and Cleveland before arriving in Baytown. Arrangements for a rally here were being made Friday by Fred 0. Sims, District 4 advisor for the Republican Party. The rally will last an hour and a half. Candidates expected to be on the bus, and the offices they aie seeking, include Jack Crichlon of Dallas, governor; Horace Houston of Dallas, lieutenant governor; John Trice of Waco, aiiorney general; T.

E. Kennerly of Houston, Texas Supreme Court; Don Flanagan of Rich- railroad commissioner- JohK Matthews of Abilene, land commissioner; Dallas Calmes Jr. of Houston, state comptroller; and Fred Neumann of Beaumont, state treasurer. A few press representatives and some of the candidates' wjves also will be on the "Goldwater Special," which is expected to cany about 30 persons.
