PADHL. Register of Probate. H. K. Worthy Outstanding Horse; Real Workouts Are Started.

Horses in training at the Gogebic county fairgrounds track this week were started doubleheading after several months of daily Jogging. The arrival of warm weather and drying of the track made it possible for their trainers to start giving them some real workouts. Thursday the horsemen had the track dragged and H. J. Masterson of Hurley had a man there all day raking it clear of stones to safeguard his horse.

H. K. Worthy, from the possibility of injury. H. K.

Worthy is the outstanding horse in training at the local traqk. His record for a half mile track is 2:04 1-2, made at Goshen, N. while his mark for the mile is 2:02 3-4, made at Old Orchard, Me. Last year he turned in the fastest heat scored on a Wisconsin track, 2:06. Since January 6 Worthy has been jogged several miles every day and enters the summer training season in good condition and carrying 100 pounds added weight.

Masterson is well pleased with the condition of his horse and is looking forward to the early Wisconsin meetings at Milwaukee and other places. Another horse in training here is Clarence Christenson's Hal Bond, whose record of 2:05 was made at Minneapolis. Christenson purchased the horse last fall from Dr. Dennison, well known Bemidji, horseman. Ray Vervalle's Silver McKinney also is working out at the local track.

Hal Bond and Silver McKinney also are doubleheading and are training soundly. They were both jogged five miles daily all win- Prize Rookie! Merrill May of Phillies Lives Up To His Reputation. (1). Congressman Welcomes Singers on Arrival in Washington. When the Flnlandla Male Chorus arrived in Washington, this week from Finland, Congressman Frank E. Hook of Ironwood welcomed the group to this country. In his address of welcome he said: "The world today, in this time of grave fears and uncertainty, needs more than guns and battleships, it needs more than' political leadership; it needs good fellowship, understanding, faith and confidence among nations and with each other.

'It is indeed a pleasure and, I assure you, a distinct honor to a sincere welcome to the Fin- andia Male Chorus to Washington, our capitol city, and to the United States of America. It is more than a welcome to your fine a welcome to each of you individually. In doing so, I want you to know it is because of the deep respect and friendly feeling we have 'or your beloved country of Finland and all those sons and daughters of your fair land who have become citizens in the United States of America. "It is our fondest hope that you njoy your visit here. We are grate- ul that you have come, not only or the opportunity of hearing this plendid chorus, but for the friendly and neighborly spirit which it ex- mplifles between the people of two great powers of the world.

"I understand you men are prac- ical businessmen as well as fine rtists representing the best male oices in Finland. Our appreciation will only be surpassed by our en- iiusiasm to serve you. "We have long held in high es- eem the people of Finnish descent and the nation of Finland. Our ountry has" come to regard the 'integrity' and 'intelligent government' as synonymous with Finnish-Americans and Finland. "While many nations in Europe ffte on the verge of weakening before the onslaught of dictatorships Finland stands as the finest example of true democracy.

At a time when nations look with distrust upon the motives and actions of many of their neighbors, at a time when treaties have again become a 'scrap of at a time when the whole world is tense and bewildered we see Finland standing by faithful to those precepts of civilization which some nations appear to have forgotten. "The Finns have particularly impressed upon the consciousness of the American people their integrity. Americans immediately think 'of Finns as a people with an alert mind in politics who have In an extremely intelligent manner worked out a form of government embodying the true principles of a true democracy. "Although the Finnish language is so very different from ours there are so many other common interests and ties between the two people that this has never been a barrier between us. Those of us in America who are familiar with the innumerable fine qualities of the Finns, those of us who have lived among them in America and who are acquainted with the many great contributions they have made to the cultural and public life of our country are proud to point to Finland as the country in Europe where the humanitarian and intellectual principles of liberty and justice are working in reality.

"I extend to you my hearty greet- ngs and trust that when you return to your native land you will carry with you a spirit of friendship and goodwill that will last throughout the ages.
