It is hoped, that construction of compatibly designed structures to house privately leased support concessions such as restaurants, marina, motel, and the yacht servicing facilities envisioned in the Patriots Point total site development plan, will be under way in 1976. Sumter, Ft. Johnson, Ft. Moultrie and more than a dozen other venerable landmarks of American and naval history. Significantly, too, Patriots Point is but a few miles downriver from today's Sixth Naval District Headquarters and a major Polaris submarine base. And, when fully developed.it will provide mooring facilities for the Navy's most distinguished decommissioned capital ships and submarines as they become available; plus modern causeways for easy visitor access.

Already approved by the Navy and Congress as the keystone of the Patriots Point PATRIOTS POINT, CHARLESTON HARBOR, S.C. Patriots Point is the most ambitious, comprehensive exposition of U.S. Navy, Maritime and other sea-related exhibits ever attempted in this country. The 500-acre former silt disposal area being developed as the location for this unique national shrine is located at the tip of a prominent peninsula lying near the mouth of the Cooper River in one of the nation's leading naval and commercial seaports, at Charleston, S.C. The site is directly across the harbor from that historic city and it overlooks, as well, Naval and Maritime Museum is the aircraft carrier, York-town, which was decommissioned in 1970 after nearly 30 years of valorous service in WWII and the subsequent conflicts in Korea and Vietnam.

The Yorktown will be towed to Patriots Point from her present mooring at Bayonne, N.J., in May, passing down the Delaware. She is the first carrier ever made accessible to the public by the Navy, and probably will be the only such ship ever designated as a "Navy Museum." In the first phase of development at Patriots Point, construction will be concentrated on the facilities required tVERiTOINC TV NIGHT CLUB BrmAt jy Stows Deiuu Rooms Baths 3MeilsDaly Ijlncludoi Broakfait! Moreover, with the aid of contributions and grants sought through promotional and fund-raising activities in 1975, it is hoped that construction at Patriots Point will include a vast structure on shore roughly the size of six football fields. This will house the Navy's "small combatant" units such as mines and minesweepers, PT boats and Coast Guard, as well as merchant marine models, displays and other artifacts and exhibits from the naval and maritime world of the sea. Also in 1976, it is projected that about 300 acres of land presently included in the Patri riHOTPDC to safely moor the Yorktown; and then to refurbish and convert the carrier itself into a floating museum which will not only house a priceless collection of naval artifacts, but, in fact, be such an artifact, complete with the aircraft and other accoutrements of carrier warfare and carrier living all authentically restored and exhibited.

The official dedication of the Yorktown as the first ship of the Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum will take place on Oct. 13 the 200th anniversary of the U.S. Navy. The beginning of America's Bicentennial Celebration Year will be the official opening of the museum as a prime feature of the nation's participation in that celebration and certainly one of the few major permanent memorials to its patriotic manifestations. if child undmr 9 in pannt't room FBff CAAKS CZSOV AmtSS NOW Indoor Outdoor Poets 2 Sinus NEW YEAR IN APRIL WEEKENDS SlM 11-13.

'A 14 Vv Washington Post Service WASHINGTON Anyone for Europe? Asia? South America? Once again we're nearing the moment of truth for that segment of the travel industry which depends heavily on international travel for a healthy case flow. And for U.S. travel promoters as well. What's the outlook? Color it worried, with a tinge of optimism tempered by a weak worldwide economy and an erratic dollar. While it may be true that (as industry spokesmen keep tell- ing us) "your trip will never be cheaper than it is this year," the fact remains If your pock-etbook tells you that you can't afford to travel abroad and perhaps not even too far in this country then the price is still not right for you.

Each country is eager to prove, however, that you can still find low-cost meals. Inflation and recession are not the best traveling companions, regardless of your destination, but industry officials believe that Americans will still insist upon taking their vacations even though the discretionary dollar is highly vulnerable to rising cost for food, clothing and other necessities. Certainly Miami's unexpectedly strong popularity this winter, along with continuing good business in Mexico, Hawaii and parts of the Caribbean, are hopeful signs. Reports from Europe, the Pacific and Africa have not been that encouraging, while cruises have held up surprisingly well. The middle and upper middle income brackets have supplied a large percentage of the vacation travel market since the jets ushered in the era of mass travel.
