City Baseball Team to Complete League Season Here Friday Night Against Alton Sioux Center Golf Tournament To Be Played at Rock Rapids August 30 Deadline for Entries is August 27 Northwestern Grid Practice to Begin Later This Month The fifth annual Sioux Center IB-hole handicap golf tournament will be played at the Rock Rapid! golf course Thursday, August 30, according to Hans Fabetwho is in charge of this year's arrangements committee. The tournament will be run about the same as in the past. Golfers wishing to enter must notify Faber (phone 28421) by 6 p.m. August 27 so that flights can be completed. Entry fee is $3.80 for non members and $2.00 for members of the Rock Rapids Golf club.

The fee Includes green fees and money for prizes. Golfers should also declare their season's average to Faber by the deadline date for entries August 27. Faber said the committee will "take their word for it" as far as seasons averages are concerned. The Tournament will be as fair as those participating make it, Faber continued. Golfers will be placed in flights.

In case of a tie, the flight winner will be determined by lowest medal score within that flight. First place winners in each flight will receive a prize. As in the past, prizes will also be given for highest score, lowest score, most birdies, most pars, longest drive, etc. The tournament is open only to Sioux Center golfers. Hans Faber won the tournament last year.

ADDITIONAL SPORTS ON PAOI 6 Football practice at Northwestern college, Orange City, will be gin on August 30, football coach Jim Welton has announced. The squad will converge on the Northwestern campus on Wednesday, August 29, for physicals, equip ment checkouts and pictures of the team and Individuals. Coach Welton is expecting about 30 men to report with about half of them returning lettermen. Dennis Caryl, junior, and Harlan Heidelbauer, senior, both from Sioux Rapids, Iowa, were elected co-captains at the close of the 1961 football season. In addition to the co-captains, Coach Welton is counting on the services of flashy halfback Larry Smith, junior from Oakland, named all-conference last year and who averaged over five yards per carry.

Dave Platt, sophomore from Early, Iowa, out most of last season with leg injuries, is expected to play a vital spot on the 1962 Red Raider football team. Bob Van Sickle, junior from Eagle Grove, reactivated into the army after three games last season, plans to be back on the lineup this fall. Paul Muyskens. former Sioux Center high school basketball coach, will serve as assistant football coach for the Red Raiders. Northwestern will play an eight game schedule, beginning Septem ber 15.

Sioux Center won close decisions the earlier three games 7 to 3 to 2, and 10 to 6 in 10 innings. Sioux Center has already won he league championship but a win for Alton Friday night could ift them out of the league cellar. The game was orginally scheduled for August 3 but was rained out. Following the completion of the eague schedule, Sioux Center is expected to play a few non-league ontests. Tennis Tournament Finals Set For Friday, Saturday Finals in the five tennis tournaments for those ages 10 through 18, will be held at the tennis courts here Friday and Saturday.

The orginal schedule called for all natches to be completed on Friday nit because of a church camp this week, some of the matches were early and others forced a bit. Tournament results through ruesday of this week were as folows: Mon's Singloi Agos 10-14 Carl Bleeker over Ricky Brommer, 6-2, 6-1. Judd Te Paske over Paul Vermeer, 4-6, 6-1, 6-0. Carl Bleeker over Don Huisman, 6-0, 6-1. Chuck Siebersma over Judd Te Paske, 6-2, 6-2.

Bleeker and Siebersma will meet for the championship at 1:30 Saturday. Woman's Singles Agos 10-14 Mary Ver Steeg over Donna Bierma, 6-0, 6-1. Pam Mouw over Jane Doom- waard, 5-7, 6-2, 7-5. Mary Lynn Franken over Linda Godsey, 6-0, 6-3. Norma Roelofs over Carol Schutt, 6-1, 7-5.

Sheldon AlUStars Will Host Local Cubs Thursday, August 30 The Sheldon All-Stars, made up of the top players from the 8-team Sheldon church league, will play host to the Sioux Center Cubs in a special softball attraction at Sheldon Thursday, August 30. These same two teams played at Sheldon July 19 with the Cubs nipping the All-Stars then, 2 to 1, in 10 innings. Art Buyert of the Cubs pitched a no-hitter in that game with the only run for the All-Stars being unearned.

Hirtlngton It expected to return the game Thuridiy, August 23. It was the 12th win in 14 games for Sioux Center. The winners lost no time in taking the iead.

Bob Vermeer led off the first inning with a triple and scored on a single by Dave Mulder. A Gerald Sandbulte home run with one out made it 3 to 0. With two out, Glen De Master walked, advanced to third on a double by Marty Wierda, and scored on a wild pitch. Sioux Center continued to hold the 4-0 lead until the fifth when they added two more runs on a pair of walks and a double by Paul Bruinsma. Sikieffer tripled to open the bottom of the fifth for the hosts and scored their only run of the game when Kathal followed with a single.

Dave Mulder led off with a lome run to begin a five-run attack in the sixth for Sioux Center. A single by Lcs Te Grotcnhuis, walks to Sandbulte and Wayne Sruinsma, a double by De Master and a triple by Doug Zylstra finished out the scoring. Zylstra Is Winning Pitcher Zylstra pitched the first five innings for Sioux Center and picked up his second victory in four days. Te Grotenhuis hurled the final two innings of the game which was called after seven innings because of the 10-run lead rule, Zylstra gave up a run, just three hits and fanned nine. He struck out four men in the second inning but a passed ball allowed one of them to reach first base.

He didn't walk any. Hartington nearly kept the game alive in the bottom of the seventh with a single and double to lead off the inning. Te Grotenhuis struck out the next three batters, however, to end the game. Sioux Center pounded out 14 hits off two Hartington pitchers. Vermeer, Mulder, Sandbulte, De Master, Te Grotenhuis and Paul Bruinsma had two each.

Nine of the hits went for extra bases. De Master and Bruinsma had two doubles each. Besides giving up the 13 hits, the two Hartington pitchers Sikieffer and Rositter struck out four batters, walked eight and hit one. Announce More Hunting Seasons The hunting and trapping seasons for the coming season have been announced by the State Conservation Commission.

Only pheasant, Hungarian partridge, quail, and waterfowl remain to be set. The seasons approved by the Commission are as follows (all I dates listed are inclusive): HUNTING Squirrel September 15-December 14, 1962; bag limit, possession limit, 12. Rabbit September 15, 1962 to February 3, 1963; bag limit, 10; possession limit, none. Shooting hours for rabbit are from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Raccoon 12 noon October 13, 1962 to midnight February 28, 1963. No bag or possession limit. (shotgun) December 15 17, 1962 (8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.) Deer (bow) October 13-De cember 2, 1962 (6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.) One deer will be allowed to a licensed hunter whether taken with a bow or shotgun.

Four Local Softball Teams In Tourney At Orange City Four of the five teams from the Sioux Center Softball league will be among 19 teams participating in an Orange City softball tournament which begins tonight (Thursday) and runs through Friday, August 24. The Cubs and Red Caps from the local league will be among six teams to sec first round action tonight.

The Indians and Carmel and 11 other teams got first round byes. There will be three games tonight, Saturday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Semi-finals are set for next week Thursday with finals on Friday, August 23. The tournament schedule: August 16 (first round) 7 p.m., Cubs vs. Orange City First Reformed church; 8 p.m., Akron vs.

Mrs. Albert Holtdorf, the mother of Wesly Holtdorf of Maurice passed away at the Hawardcn hospital on Saturday. Funeral services were held on Tuesday in the Lutheran church at Ircton. Mrs. Robert Sherman and two daughters of Chicago spent Wednesday in the Wallace Muilcn- bcrg home.
