G. Jackson, jn two volumes of "The nco of Roman Architecture in tly and England." It was in Florence this revival ancient leaining began, and' ere also was the source of the vival of classic arahitectuie. It took more than a centuryjind half to bring about its complete ivelopment.

Beginning with runelleschi, and the great dome Florence in 1420, it camo to a ose with Pallailio's- work in the tter part of the sixteenth cen- iry, and the completion of the great dome at St. Peter's Inch WAS finished before 1590. In volume two the histoiy of te renaissance of Roman archi- cture in England is traced froni beginning- under Henry VIII to le time of its decline. Here as Italy- tho revival of classic scholarship led naturally to the study of architecture, and it became necessary to be in classic iashion, in building as well as in letters. The rise of tho classic architecture, and some building constructed during the period, and their architects, the decline and its results on architectural styles in England today, make fascinating reading for all interested in art.
